Hi, I'm 17 Years old and I want to start early and build a excellent credit history early. I am employed already at my job right now for about 7 Months. I basically want a credit card so I can get a motorcycle for transportation. I went to the dealership about a week ago and they said I had no credit history. Unfortunately, you can not start to establish credit until you are 18. I know- it happened to me. Even then it was hard becuase to get a credit card you need credit! Silly isn't it? I say it took about 7 months after I turned 18 to even get my first credit card.... and I'm still building credit. Discover was my first. try getting student/college credit cards- those are easier to get bechase the banks know that college students are broke and more likely to use these cards. Capitalone was also a good one, low interest rate. Good luck. I'm also looking for a bike! lol |

Ask your parents or some other adult with good credit to add you to their credit cards. They should not however give you a credit card, just put your name on the account.
You will get the benefit of their credit over time and there is no risk to them (as long as they are smart enough not to give you a card). |

1. You cannot do anything with your credit until you are 18, because you are still considered a minor, and minors are prohibited by law from entering into contracts of any type without the consent of a parent. Anything that you want to do, you'll have to wait until you ae 18.
2. The fact that you're thinking about lying on the application indicates that you're most likely not mature enough to handle credit cards and the responsibilities that come with them. To receive credit from any company, you have to give a social security number. The information tied to that number MUST COMPLETELY MATCH the information on your credit application, otherwise, you will be denied credit and could face legal repercussions.
3. Even if you get a credit card, it will still take a while to build your credit. It may be a good idea to try talking with your parents about getting some help getting transportation. |

You cannot obtain any kind of credit right now because you are under the age of 18 and cannot legally enter into any financial agreements until you reach the age of 18. You also do not want to lie about your age, because if you do....that will follow you around since the credit reporting agencies will keep track of your age and that can be a problem down the line when you start to use your real age. One you turn 18, go to a bank and ask to apply for a STUDENT Visa card. You will get it.....its the easiest thing to get. Be careful and do not go overboard with your credit cards and get into trouble. Also, NEVER use more than 1/3 of the total credit limit you are given. For example.......if you get a card with a 600 dollar limit, dont go over 200 on your balance.....it will keep your credit scores decent. The closer you are to your limits will harm your credit scores. Hope this helps. |

Lying about your age will not work, because when you fill out credit applications you have to use your social security number. The best thing that i could say to do, since you are so young, is ask your parents if they have a credit card that they can add you too. Due to you being on their account, it helps build your credit. Unfortunatly, there isnt a quick fix to building credit. Most start out with a department credit card but you must pay it on time and it takes a year or so. The longer you have credit, the better your score.
Right now, i would say find a co-signer, and DONT HAVE LATE PAYMENTS, its hurts your credit score! Just remember to be responsible when you do get a credit card, because its really easy to have it and forget about it.

What she said... That's ridiculous. Find someone who's 18 and has a credit card, you become a second cardholder and you are just as financially responsible.
When I was 13, my parents had the sense to do it for me. I have been establishing credit ever since. It's not like I ever even used the card or maybe just bought a pack of gum and gave my parents the 2 bucks.
Like I said, I've already had a credit history for 12 years. You just have to trust somebody and find someone that trusts you enough to do that for you. |

To start with, make sure you have a checking account and maybe buy something on layaway. I know people that paid in full all their lives and were great with bills. However, in their 30's found they had no credit history. Not very rewarding. So, if you really want a credit card, create some bills that you are paying on time. You don't want to get just any credit card because you'll get a high interest and maybe sign an agreement you are not ready for. You have like a year before credit cards will be begging for your business. Use the time wisely.

You should be able to get a credit card with Visa. I got my 1st credit card with them when I was 18, but they had low interest rates and they were very good in dealing with people that were just starting to build their credit. |
