Get one with 0% APR. I got my first this month. I got it at Capital One. The APR is 0% until November. The thing was they wanted a ridiculously high APR to start me off with. I said OK then I canceled the whole thing unless they gave me 0% APR and guess what - they did - and I was new at this and the trick worked. I plan to have a 0 balance by November and some credit built up by then to get another card someplace else at least with a lower APR than 17.8% - good luck - and be careful! :) |

None. You can build it by paying your cell phone on time. The more you avoid using a credit catrd the better. |

citicards are good, but you need to actually use the card. not just carry it around. |

a visa or masrecard from the local bank where you have a checking account. Keep your limit under $3000. no matter what they tell you would make your credit look better. Next don't charge what you can't pay for. The reason for going with your local bank, even though the apr might not be the best is, #1 if there's a problem, you can walk in a talk to a bank rep,#2, in the future, you,ve built a reputation with your local bank, when you want to get something bigger like a car or land. I had several mortages and auto loans through my local bank. All paid off in full. When I wanted to purchase a piece of land, I went back to the local bank, where they knew me by first name and was approved in 3 hours. The reason for the $3000 limit,is you have to be a real idiot to get your self in debt with a credit card for more than 3000. You'll never be able to pat it off and it will ruin your credit score. Allso, only have ONE card. You can get in allot of trouble having many. My ex, I had to take loans of over $14,000, to pay off her card debts. The after we were divorced, she(illegally) took out a card in my name with a 10K limit and had it up to almost 4k, by the time I found out. A judge fixed that. Good credit responsability works like this....... Yesterday, I bought my first ever new car,(im 45) and, because of my excelent credit, and on time bill paying history, I was at the dealership for an 1 hour. no questions asked. So, be smart with the card. |

I like the citicards for starting out. Just pay the balance each month to make sure you never accrue interest. |

well i had my first credit card 2 years ago when I was 16 my dad got me one from OrchardBank. You send them money and then your credit limit will be the amount you send them. and eventually your credit will rise. slowly but surely.
my dad taught me a trick, you spend all your amount in one month and then pay it all off fully. and then the next month you spend half and pay it off and then you spend it all the next month & so on & so forth. |
