Don't get one unless you have a job and are responsible enough to keep up with it. You will need to probably get a retail credit card (Best Buy, clothing stores, Sears, etc) to help establish credit before you can get a "regular" credit card. |

Why would you desperately need a credit card? They are bad news unless they are used sensibly - cant you save up if you want to buy something. If you really want one you should contact your bank |

If you are desperate then stay away from credit. learn to live within your means. |

No 18 year old should "Desperately" need a credit card. Buying on credit should be a last resort to anything. I know you don't want to hear this, but you should develop an attitude of "If I can't pay cash, then I can't afford it.". Of course, this rule doesn't have to apply to two items; a car or a home.
I can guarantee you that you will be badly screwed by agencies that give you credit because you are a high risk. You will be %29.95 for your money, which is what Loan Sharks used to charge for money.
I know that this is not the answer that you are seeking. |

i think you should apply to your bank and they should be able to help if you havnt got a bank account then get one asap as without an account you will find it very difficult to get credit as you will have a very low credit score - good luck |

i would not recommend getting any credit cards, as i am only 20 and in serious debt, if u wanted one that bad try capital one, it is an extremely high interest rate and u will only get a small limit but they normally accept u, otherwise try your bank |

Have you tried applying for one? Tesco is quite a good place to start and lots of banks, building societies and supermarkets do cards. |

I would try Capital One, they are good if you have no credit history. |

You'll probably have better luck with banks and credit card providers than with us here. |

Two ways to getting a credit card at your age. If you are a college student, you can apply to one at school. If you are not a college student, then you will have to start out with a secured credit card. A secured credit card is opening an account with a real credit card company. The catch is, you must put in a down payment to get it. If you have a bank account, you can apply. No bank account, you can apply with Capital One. |

Your best choices for a quick card would be a secured card or a debit card linked to your checking account. Neither of these products will lead to as much trouble for a 18yo as a conventional card. If you are in need of money the best place to go is to work. |

you could always start by applying for a secured credit card from a company such as Capital one. Basically, you start an account by depositing an amount of money, then they give you a credit line based on that deposit (not always the same amount...they may give you more). After a few months of making payments on time, you can apply for a limit increase without making an additional deposit. The interest rates on these tend to be a little high, so after about a year of good payment history shop around for a regular card. |

If you have a job with regular income, you should be able to get a credit card from a bank or other regular source. If you are a college student, both Visa and Master Card offer special programs for people like you, even if you don't have a regular job.
But if you don't have either one, you will probably need to start out with a pre-paid card. Search online for prepaid Mastercard or Visa, and you will get tons of hits. The problem is that you have to pay the money first, then you can use the card like a regular credit card. After a few months of regular use, you would have established that you are credit-worthy, and you could probably go to a more normal credit card. Also, the gas company cards are usually easier to get than the big names. Of course, if it just Exxon or something, it is not good for much, but again you can build up your credit rating.
Another route to go is to open a bank account at a bank that will give you a debit card. These look and mostly act like credit cards (one difference is that it is harder to rent a car with a debit card or use it for hotels and such). But the nice part about them is that--unlike a prepaid credit card--there is usually no fee.
Good luck!! |

you can go to any bank and set one up, they'll help you set one up due to a credit check etc. I know the major banks do them and it takes about a week 2 at the most. |
