Without Getting A Credit Card?

Open a secured line of credit at a credit union or bank. It is best to do this at a bank in which you already have an account in good standing. You can start by depositing as little as $200, and withdrawing money and paying yourself back every month.

Once you prove yourself trustworthy, you can take out a larger amount of secured credit until you have built up enough to establish yourself.

Then, you can check your credit score with the 3 major credit bureaus: Experian, TransUnion, and Equifax, to see if you rate high enough to apply for a car loan or mortgage (or whatever credit you are looking to get in the end). You should have at least a FICO score of 650 or higher to be considered low-risk by most lenders.

Either a secured credit card (you pay a deposit and have a credit limit just slightly below that) or try to get a gas card or a store credit card and PAY ON TIME, in full if at all possible (the interest on "starter cards" really isn't worth it!). Then, after proving yourself to be responsible for about 6 months to a year, you can try to apply for a "standard" credit card because you should have enough information to establish a credit report.

Other than this, try to take out a small loan that you know you can pay back. If you can't get a small personal loan, consider having someone with good credit co-sign for the loan. As long as you pay it off, you shouldn't have a problem.

Get some type of loan or a credit card. Just watch out for interest rates.

Get a secured credit card. Make several purchases and pay them off in a timely manner.

Whoa Whoa slow down... get a credit card when your 20... Because you have to pay back ALL the money you spend on it, and I saw this guy got a credit card early and he was poor trying to pay the card company back and he had to work his @$$ off 24/7!

If you go to college, go to the student union and pick up applications. Or sometimes credit card companies will drop by and offer free T-shirts and sign up for credit card. After a few years of responsible usage you can have good credit.

If you are a student with a loan you are getting credit.

You have to get a loan or a credit card (and use it) to get credit.

A car loan is another common way people build their credit.

Credit score is very important. Years down the road you might want to get a nicer car or buy a house/condo and you'll need it so be responsible with it.

If you're not a student, start with department store cards. They're a lot easier to get credit with at lower limits. So go somewhere that you spend a fair amount of money.

You will not get it overnight it will take months or a year. Save some money, a few thousand is all you will need in a savings bank for a start. Then buy something useful that you can fairly easily afford that costs a few hundred dollars, say a TV, or better a washing machine. (Practical). Put on a big deposit, maybe 20% and make the payments on or before time. Make sure the lender is some kind of well known agency. Have a regular job.

If you do get a credit card, make sure you always pay off at least three times the minimum monthly payment. If you work out the minimum monthly payment for a credit card debt of a few hundred over the 15 or 30 years they calculate it on, it comes to thousands and thousands. Paying only the minimum monthly payment is for fools.

DO NOT let a bunch of places run your credit. Which means do not fill out a credit application for anyone until you are certain of the purchase you want to make. If you have a hometown kind of bank, you should try to get a small loan with them. If you need the money use it but if not just put it in savings while you pay it back. Creditors (stores) like to see a 24 month payment history on an installment loan which is a loan where the payment is the same every month like a car or house note. Once it looks like you can make 2 years of payments never being late, most creditors are ready to trust you. Alot of times creditors want you to have a checking account so if you don't have one then open one and have any income direct deposited into your acct. They want you to prove alot of things if they give you credit.
