You can go to the dealer and they will get you a loan or go to your bank and pre-qualify. What you qualify for depends on your credit score and income to debt ratio.
Most banks are tightening up their standards. Not knowing your credit background makes it harder to help you out.
But if you have good credit, go to a credit union and pre-qualify. They will typically give you the best percentage rate. Remember, what the dealer offers you will usually have some extra added on to give them a better profit margine.
If you have bad credit, then expect a high interest rate if you qualify.
Go to this website and click on the auto forums. There are people there who can tell you what you'll qualify for.

Why not just save like 1000 bucks and buy a beat up old car and drive it until you have enough money to pay cash for a car. You will save tons in interest and you can get liability only if you own the car outright, which at 21 years old, full coverage is expensive. |

what ever you do dont buy a new car. it sucks and you lose money as soon as you drive it away.
but for car loans the best thing I ever did was go to a credit union. they had a fantastic rate and were really good. that was in colorado tho. they are not everywhere. |

I agree with the first poster about the Credit Union, and car dealer.
Depending on your credit, you may need a co-signer too.
Also, I wouldn't go NEW. I would go used from a lot, and use kbb.com. This way you can find out the re-sale price of the vehicle, and then haggle. Try not to buy for the price they offer...ever...if you can. (But this mostly has to do with credit...if you have bad credit...and are in need of a car, you have less leverage to haggle with).
Good luck! My mom is the queen of this. She once got a 14,000 Car down to 8,000 off the lot, just from having the kbb.com print out with her. (and she had an awesome credit score).

It can really save you hassle to just get an auto loan estimate online to check out what the going rates are. You might be totally happy. Also if your credit is not good, a lot of online loaners are more able to help you.
What I usually tell friends is that an online quote at http://auto.lowratetoday.com is what I would do. |
