I was in your position 2 years ago. You'll need to build your credit history and that takes time. I started with depositing $500 in a bank and asked for a 'secured' credit card for that amount. I made sure to pay whatever I charged earlier than due date and often a few dollars more than minimum payment.

My wife had a lifetime of credit history here and she added my name to one of her credit card and this gave my rating a boost. If you are married to someone who has lived here longer than you, then you can add your name (if he has decent rating). The same goes if you have parents or siblings here.

Getting a used car should not be a big issue.Buying a house will require patience and good track record.

Also, do not apply for too many credit cards in near future! You'll soon get too many mails saying you are pre-approved! Tempting but set your priorities in order. Also, if you are not happy with a credit card DO NOT CANCEL the service. Doing so will reduce your ratings. Simply do not use it.

Oh and try not to overspend the plastic and always pay a couple days before duedate and always pay little over minimum payment, even if it is a dollar more.

Good Luck.

GET A CREDIT CARD. Make maybe one purchase a month, and pay it off immediately to establish an account in good standing. I went for many years without establishing credit, thinking that never having a black mark on my record would help when I did want to get a loan or credit card. WRONG!! Believe it or not, bad credit is better and easier to fix than no credit.

The easiest way to get a credit card is to apply to all the companies that send you any information on getting a card, when you get one then don't apply for any more use that one and buy small amounts and do as i say below.
buy a small item, pay it up when the bill comes and do this for at least 6 months and you will start building up credit, also use the bank card the same way buy groceries and use it as a credit on the card the cashier in the market will help you also pay it up when the bill comes this way you can also build up credit,it's important to have good credit and in the USA it's almost a must, good luck, start with the bank.

You don't need to run out and apply for credit. Simply live your life, free of debt. Pay cash for things, and have a savings account.

There are lots of people who are in DEEEP trouble with debt. It's easy to get, hard to get rid of. Simply stay away.

we all need credit but please be careful while shopping around for the right credit card or loan to take out people are looking for people that they can take advantage of and try to ruin them with the outrageous % rate so take your time and shop every well before jumping at the first response you get in the mail or see on the web

You do need to build up credit. You can get a credit/debit card from your bank, and when you but groceries or whatever use the card as credit. Also, I would get a regular credit card and purchase somethign very small once a month. 20 dollars or so, and pay it off at the end of the month. Good luck with everything! And welcome to the USA!

The truth is WE ALL NEED CREDIT! But some of us do not have sufficient time to build it. If you have not worked and had an income, its pretty hard to show you can pay any bills without your own income.

You DO NEED TO BUILD CREDIT. When you choose a credit card make sure you read the "terms and conditions" (fine print of the card). This will tell you the fees associated with the card, application fee, annual fee, activation fee, etc. Try to find a card that will have NO FEES, and a low interest rate!!!!! For starter cards I have found "Orchard Bank Classic Card" to have a small annual fee and no activation fees, or other bogus fees. When you have the card make sure to use it to your advantage by charging ONLY what you can pay when the bill for the card comes the following month. DO NOT PAY THE MINNIMUM, otherwise interest will accrue. You don't need credit repair services or a credit repair company to tell you that. If you want more free advice, feel free to contact me at 561-305-8188.

You should have a credit(not debit) card and never, never pay anything late. That will build a good credit history. The history is like an insurance policy--you never know when you will need it but when you do need it is too late to go out and get one. Good luck!
