I'm getting my first credit card, what's the best way to build credit?
i'm thinking about just using it to buy gas for my car than paying it in full when the bill comes would that be a good idea?

there are two ways you could start credit one or them is taking out a small personal loan which you might need a parent or an adult to co-sign for you meaning if you do not pay the loan they will. Or you could apply for a credit card for bad or no credit which most likely will get you approved no matter what, but if you are a student you could get a student credit card which will offer you lower rates and no annual fees, check out www.fastcreditcardapprovals.com and go under bad or no credit or student cards. good luck

Yes - Good idea in theory.
No- If you want to build your credit.

paying your credit bill in full once you spend it will increase your credit score, but it is not the fastest way to do it.

If you're looking for the most efficient way of increasing your credit score pay most of it off at first, then the rest later. For example, say your credit is $100, pay off $80 in the first bill, then $20.

Why?
doing this not only increases your credit score faster but shows you as a favorable candidate for credit card companies.
Paying what you owe in full is great, and shows up nicely on your record, don't get me wrong. But when the credit card companies see that you have a tendency of leaving that little bit off for later they like it because this means you are making money for them. If you pay in full they get $0, if you leave $20 for the following bill, they are making %2 (or whatever percentage they charge) for their interest.

At first, start by having the money in your hand. Meaning do not buy something unless you have the money. Need a $15 shirt, buy it on your credit car, and put the $15 in a coffee can. Have $30 dinner, pay it on your credit card and put $30 in the coffee can. At the end of the month, put the money in your bank account and write a check for the full amount to the credit card company. Especially now when times are bad, you need to know that a credit card is mainly for the insurance protection, or for emergency. Later when times are better, or you are making good money, you can buy a big thing on your credit card and pay it off over a few months. Good luck

The type of card you choose is dependent upon how you plan on paying your card and what you're looking for. If you plan on paying your balance in full each month (and they calculate interest based on your average daily balance for one statement cycle instead of over a 2 month billing period) then there is no reason for you not to do cash back or points because even though those cards have higher interest rates if you're paying off in full every month by the payment due date you're not going to be charged finance charges.

just use it as if it's a debit card. IE: do not spend more than you have. your gas idea is good, just budget it out of your checking account every month and pay the credit card.

Make small purchases that can be paid off each month and then do it.

Pay your balance on time. Pay more than the minimum payment due, Mail out payment at least 10 days ahead of time. Better yet, get on "Auto Pay" which automatically deducts from your bank account to pay the bill each month. It will give you a choice whether to pay the minimum due or pay more. Keep your balance to credit available low, and let time do the rest. Eventually you will start to get all kinds of offers in the mail for new "Pre Approved" credit card applications. Also, after a time of paying regularly you can call your credit company's customer service and ask them to please lower your interest charge on your account. Most times they will agree. It never hurts to try.

Your answers are all good, but you want your credit statement to read "pays better than agreed". So always pay on time, pay off every month if you can, and always pay an extra dollar or two when paying off so they will always owe you money back! They don't write checks back to you so they will continue to raise your limit, thus giving you a better credit rating, or credit score.

pay as soon as you used it

Yep, buy and then pay off. Don't buy anything you can't afford when you are actually buying it!
