I'm not asking for me {lol} but how many times per day is a collection agency allowed to call, & when you ask
then to leave a msg, they hang up

That is odd, I would think that they would call once a day or maybe twice if you didn't answer. But check this site, it has more details on collection agency. Hope it helps.

I'm pretty sure they are only allowed to call you once a day. Then they can get fined. They also can't call after 9pm. The trouble is catching them in the act. You would need to somehow get your incoming phone records from the phone company (real easy if you have a cell phone) and also they would have to be an actual phone number instead of "unavailable" and/or you'd have to have more than one recorded message.

So, technically they can't call you more than once a day, but it's really hard to enforce.

The answer is one time per day.

The link should help. Section 806 or harrassment.

theosharatos
I'm not sure, but I know they are not allowed to call your workplace at all. Block their call.

They cal my mom all the time like 7 or eight times and then they yell at her and every thing she has just got out of the hospital with cancer and she told them they said they didn't care that wasn't there problem. And she paid the bill of with a credit card and they said she owed another bill of the same amount no way they are lying good luck.

Tell your friend to record the number of calls they get. And the times that they come in. They can't call to the point of harrassment, which is left vague. They also can't call after certain times, which varies by state. And they cannot, under any circumstances, call you at work. If your friend is going through a bankruptcy or credit counselling and restructure, they cannot call then either, and your friend needs to tell their bankruptcy lawyer.

Everything depends on the state you lived in. Collection agencies are supposed to follow the FDCPA (Fair Debt Collections Practices Act), but some really push it. You cannot call before 8am or after 9pm in all states, but some states do not have a "max" amount of times you can call, and some you can only call once a week and you're not even allowed to leave a message. I would google FDCPA and find the exact statues for your state.

TheAnswerMan
Collection law states that they cannot call you incessantly all day long. Most firms will attempt 3 times per day. If they actually physically speak to you they cannot call you back on the same day unless you state it is okay for them to do so. They can only contact you during the hours of 8am to 9pm. Anything before or after those times is a violation of Federal Collection Law standards. To answer the other half of your question. Most firms use an automated dialing system. Some are sophisticated enough to leave a complete message. Others are designed for speed and will drop the call if an answering machine picks up. The dropping of calls has become more popular due to most agencies are not in the state of your residence, their machine talking to your machine chews up time and long distance fees.
