Bad credit can stay on your record for several years. The best way to start is to obtain a copy of your credit report. You can gain free trial access to this online through either Equifax (www.equifax.com) or Experian (www.experian.com). These websites will also give you details of how to write to these companies to obtain your report that way if you prefer - it only costs £2.
I was refused credit because I was late with two payments, several months apart on a mobile telephone contract which I cancelled in 2000 just last year. Thankfully this is no longer on my credit report as most records of closed or settled accounts are removed after six years.
Both Equifax and Experian can offer advice over the phone if you need it, but the online reports are really easy to use and you can access help for every section of the report.
You will need to enter your details as accurately as possible. If you have lived at other addresses, these may affect your credit if previous occupants accrued lots of debt. Partners can also affect your credit rating. |

All debts are cleared after 6 years even if you don't pay a penny and regardless of the amount, the only way you can do this is if you move a lot, because say for example you owe 10 grand on a bank loan and you default, the loan is sold (very cheaply) to a debt collection agency who then will try to reclaim the full amount from you, but can only do so if you have a permanent address and are on the electoral roll.
You can get a copy of your credit file from experian who is one of the credit reference agencies that loan companies use, if any of the information is wrong then you ask to have it removed and get your rating back to A1
all bad credit is removed 6 years after default in any event.
If you are paying as you say and nearly finished then you must get this removed from your credit file by contacting experian, its only two pounds for a report, very reasonable. or they do a online service which is free but you have to give credit card details , they wont take a debit card but do if you do it by phone a debit card is acceptable. hope this helps. |

You can find out your credit rating on-line. Try Experian, you shouldn't have to pay to access it. |

If you go to www.anualcreditreport.com you can get a free copy of your credit report from the leading three credit institutions. It does not require you to sign up for any service or anything. If you pull these... you can see what you have negatively affecting your credit and try to fix it. They will not give you your actual credit number without a small fee... but if you see anything that is on your account that has serious delinqunicy.... or other late or non payment status... you can pretty much figure out what is getting you turned down. Some companies will deny you based on not only poor reports, but also on number of credit lines you have applied for and/or number of existing credit lines in relation to your income.
It is always good to keep up with your credit scores. If you see an incorrect entry you can contest it ( make sure it really is incorrect). If you stagger when you apply for these reports... you can check your credit three times a year and see if suspicious activity is showing up. |

Bad credit is one of the worst problems to have... however there exists a solution.
I will hereby talk from my personal experience.
I did debt consolidation a couple of years ago, however If I had to do it again I would pay to some minor details,
if someone wants to get out of debt today it is pretty easy with a debt consolidation plan, however it may get a bit tricky at times, I suggest you get as much information as possible online on this first,
a good place to start in my humble opinion is a straight to the point ebook with question and answer I found :
http://umgarticles.atspace.com/debt-consolidation.htm
if it helps kindly remember me in your voting!.. cheers! |

Go on-line and search for credit check. There are many and some are free.
The problem can sometimes be down to others who live or have lived in the past at any property you have lived in. Credit ratings are not just about your name.
Any that are not connected to you can be disputed and removed.
You may have to pay up to £15 ($20) for a reputable check |
