I've been having some trouble not going over drawn in my bank account I need some help!?
Ok so I have been trying REALLY hard to save some money and keep on track. But it seems that everytime it comes to pay day I'm over drawn and my check being deposited is going to cover the money I over spent last pay check. I am horrible at managing a check book and just need someone to help me figure out how to fix my problem. I don't shop a lot I would say I go shopping once or twice a month. I don't know where all my money goes. I make pretty good money and I have a car payment and insurance and my phone bill and thats' it. Along with day to day stuff like food. is there a service people provide to help people like me manage their money or something. I need some real help!!!!!!!

There are services but they cost.

I can help, I have formatted an excel spreadsheet.
All you have to do is plug the pay (credit) in the right place and the bills(debit) in the other and it calculates it all for you.
But you have to have excel on your computer, if not I can help with that also.

And I also agree to take out in cash your allowance for the week, including gas and food. And when its gone its gone.

If you want the spread sheet email me @ abradshaw0203@yahoo.com and I will give it to you.

the easiest way is to use cash for your daily spending.
write down how much you make, then subtract all your essential bill payments from it.
With the amount you have left over set aside a percentage for savings then withdraw the rest. This is the only money your allowed to spend. when you run out of money, you cannot buy anything else.
When your using cash, it's much more obvious when your spending more then you planned.

Ok here we go... I used to have the same issue as you and here is what I did... it worked for me so hopefully it will help you out too... First I made sure to have a savings as well as a checking account... every week put you paycheck into your checking and then transfer the funds you would like to save over to your savings account... DO NOT touch your savings account no matter what... you can only spend the $ in ur checking... If your bank is anything like mine, you only have a debit card for your checking so it shouldn't be a problem to leave your savings account alone... Hope this helps :-)

Most banks offer a over with drawl protection for a small amount monthly. Make sure you are using a checklist of what you are spending. What you make minus what you spend = what you have left in your bank account.

expenseview.com is really cool thing that can help you keep track of where you're money is going. It has you pick different categories for income (like for me I have one for my one job, one for my other job, and one for miscellaneous) and expenses (I have things like rent, eating out, groceries, gas, birth control, each bill i have, etc). After using it religiously for a month (Adding each expense and income amount right after they happen), you get a feel for where your money is coming from and going and you can then budget accordingly. For instance, in February I saw that I spent almost $600 eating out! That's more than I pay for rent! So I put in my budget for eating out at $400/month and now i can see when I'm approaching my limit and cut back on going out to eat so much. It's the middle of march and I'm only at $245 so hopefully I'll stay in budget!

It's a really handy thing, if you use it right. You can also put a "gadget" linked to it on your google home page so it's always right there and you remember to use it.

Get a blank 8.5 x 11 paper. On top write monthly expenses.
Start with payday amount after taxes. Start subtracting out car insurance, groceries, car maintenance, rent, utitlities. See whats left at the end of the equation.

go to a site that compares auto insurance quotes. I am saving $40 dollars a month when I switched car carriers insurance in the USA.

Buy generic groceries if you have to. Buy clearance clothes. Stay within your budget! Work p/t on your days off like a cashier at a fast food place. Only work 4 hours or 8 hours a day on day off, would be better for your budget, get the same work schedule hours you work on your normal job.

Its not rocket science: if the money isn't in your account, don't spend it! You might want to read "Personal Finance For Dummies."

if you write everything down in your checkbook and keep track of it that way, a good way to have extra in your account is to do this...say you write a check for $5.25...write down $6.00. This way you will always have a little extra in there.

First things first- get a notebook, write down EVERY penny you spend, even if it's .75 for a coffee on the go- you will be surprised to see where your $ goes. Until you get this under control, NO MORE SHOPPING.. Cut back to the bare bones, take it from there- once you stop paying who knows how much in overdraft fees every month, and can really account for where your $ goes, you will get back on track. Also, be sure to balance your checkbook to the penny- keep all receipts to do this and match up at the end of the month. You absolutely can do this- will just a take a little time to sort out- first step is to see where you're spending.

You have to learn to subtract sweetie.
*Paycheck* -
*whatever you buy* =
*how much money you have left*

***Aha, so you do need math after all.

What helps me is keeping what is called a zero-based spending plan (i.e. budget). What I do is write down how much I will get paid in a pay period. Then I allot money to different categories until the remaining amount is $0. So that means I have money alloted for savings, groceries, entertainment, etc. So, when pay day comes, I just look back at that plan and know exactly where all my money is going.

Once you start writing down or keeping track of your money, you will start to see where it goes. You might want to start by tracking everything you spend for a month. Anything you spend money on, write it down. You will be surprised at where it goes and how that seemingly little bit really adds up.
