I am 18 with no credit history, how can i get a credit card?

Ms. Q & A
Don't. credit cards screw up your credit. thats how it all starts and next thing you know you'll be in debt. What i did to obtain a high credit score is I purchased a new car and paid it off monthly. That raised my score very high.

Any credit card you could get would have a high interest rate since you are just beginning life as an adult. Here is the easiest way, and cheapest, to start "buying" a credit score.

1. Pick a bank.
2. Place a small amount of money in a secured savings account that does not allow you withdrawls (say $500.00).
3. Take out a loan for the same amount at the same bank, secured by the above account, and make payments on it for 6 months or a year, whatever you can afford.

Once you have established you can manage money over a period of time, credit cards, with reasonable interest rates, will become more available to you. One word of caution, a credit score is like a house of cards - it takes a long time to raise your credit score and only a moment to wipe it out. Do not take on financial obligations you can't honor.

Go two school, buy a car, apply for a card at national stores. Offers in your mail... When you buy a car,or get a card, save your money!,MAKE PAYMENTS ON TIME,Pay the debt off abruptly !!! and you're mail box will be full of offers!...DO NOT try on-line ( cons and rip-offs ).

It is difficult starting out. Don't just take any credit card. There are some that have so many hidden fees. Look for a credible bank that has credit cards, if you can't get it yourself, ask a family member or a friend to co-sign just to get you started and get a good name. I started with a Discover card. It isn't bad, The interest is Okay and no hidden fees.

Please dont get one, your so young.

If you cant afford it now, you cant afford it later.

Dont be 21, $15,000 in debt and nothing to show for it.

The best way for an 18 year old to get a credit card is to start off slow. Because you havent established yourself as a credit worthy person yet you have some work to do. First get your self a Checking and Savings account and deposit at least 200 into checking and some into savings. Leave that account open for about 3-6 months. Ask for a debit card that you can make purchases around town. If you can handle a debit card you can handle a credit card.

Go back to your bank and open a credit card. Most banks have credit cards meant just for people with limited or no credit history. Your line will probably be only 300-500 dollars. And thats ok. After you pay every month and always more that the amount due you will get line increases and other benefits.

Just make sure that if you want a credit card. Use it wisely and only if you have money to back it up in that checking account I was talking about earlier. Never spend more than you have. Good luck.

Well the easiest way to get a credit card is to get one through a store first, for example Target, use it in the store and pay it off within three months (put the money aside in the begining to make sure you pay it off) to establish credit, then upgrade to visa or student visa. Also you can try getting a credit line through your bank that acts as a back up incase you overdrawl your checking account, that will give a credit card as well. You will then have your debit card and a credit card with a limit that is linked to your account.

You should have few problems obtaining a credit card if you have absolutely no credit history. ESPECIALLY if you are starting college. Credit card companies figure that students can just take out a student loan if they get behind on their credit card payments. If you aren't getting piles of offers in your mailbox yet just apply for one at your bank.

You have to prove you can repay any amount on your charge account in order to qualify for a charge account. Do you have a job, then do you own a car, if no to these then, get a credit card thru your parent or whomever is supporting you.

Tenny S
If you are in college it's easy to get student's credit card. Indicate there that you are a student. They will ask for your student ID.

Another option, have your parents open a joint credit account with you.

If you don't want your parents involve wih you, get a Secured Credit Card. You can ask about this at your local bank(bank that offer credit cards), or you can search online for other credit card provider.

Once you get a credit card, use it wisely.
Pay it ontime. After a while, you will establish your own credit history.

Go to your bank and ask about getting one.

seriously
erm...apply at the bank, since you're here asking this dumb question you probably dont deserve one.

Mike
Hi,

it's not always easy to find the right companies. I've done a little research and found two which are serious & trusted and without credit checks. You might check
them out and then choose the one which suits you best:

Hope that helps. Wish you all the best!
