NAsty | I am 18 years old but have absolutely no credit, so what type of credit card should I apply for? |
I am 18 years old, have no credit at all, have nothing in my name, but do have a job. I applied for several credit cars (Capital One, Sears Card, Firestone Credit) and they all denied me. I was wondering, what type of credit card would I be accepted for? One with low interest, a long grace period, and NO ANNUAL CHARGE! Additional Details Please don't write dumb stuff like "Do NOT get any credit cards...they are not worth it!" because I am not asking you opinion. I want to know which card is best and easiest to get, not weather I should or should not get one. Obviously if I'm asking which one is easiest to get, I already made my decision to get one! Thanks! |

My first was with Ist Financial Bank.
It was great. Low APR, 0% on balances under $250, no annual fee, etc.

To the guy below me:
It's a good thing to establish credit, so long as you have control over it, meaning you pay your balance in full every month. Renting an apartment or buying a car in the future will require a credit check. If you have no credit then you are a less desirable candidate and may be turned down. |

It is hard to get a credit card when you have little credit history. My bank told me to get a pre paid credit card in to keep it up to date for a couple months then apply for credit cards. |

Go to a credit union - they usually have great rates on student cards - plus after a year you can usually negotiate the rate down.. one thing I can suggest is not to keep running your credit- when your credit gets run too many times it can be a bad thing.
check out programs like identity guard - they are great for finding out what your score is - and most importantly running different scenarios for applying for new credit or paying stuff down.
Also - if you get denied like with sears, and firestone - you can always submit an appeal with a current copy of your report disputing their denial.
Good Luck! |

Get a student credit card. I recommend the one from Bank of America. Its pretty good for a student (no annual fees and it doesnt look like you have to pay interest either) |

There are a few good answers above, ie. get a Card though a credit union if possible. Perhaps Capital One is good. The easiest to obtain is frequently a gas credit card. Just be sure to pay it off every month. Get a visa or M/C card that has no annual fee. Use it periodically. Once in awhile, buy something and take 2-3 months to pay it off just to show you can be responsible at making payments. This will be important when buying a car or especially a house. When buying a car, don't go through the dealer, they make a lot of money selling loans and can't always get you a good rate.
Good luck |

Capital One gave me my first card. I was working at the time when they did. My friend on the other hand, wasnt working and they gave her a card as well. Since you said so many have denied you its not good to keep applying and have all of those companies run your credit. You may want to try a secured card through a financial institution. secured cards are credit cards that you put $300 or more towards the card. After a year of seeing how you are able to handle your own money, the company will determine if you are reliable enough for them to issue you a unsecured credit card, which is a basic credit card. Good luck! |
