I am 19 with bad credit. Please help!!?
I two credit cards that are closed do to lenders' request from being delinquent 60 days. Now I have a poor score according to Experian. I can't believe I let this happen. I pay my car loan and othe credit card on time and my student loans are deferred until 6 months after graduation but none of that seems to give me points. I would like to by a house someday but I'm scared I won't even be able to rent my own apartment in the new year. Somebody help!!

They won't charge this off to a collection agency until you're 180 days late. Don't wait! Call your creditors now. Tell them you made a mistake and would like to work out a payment plan.

In a few years, if you pay them off, your credit will be fine. Don't let it go to collections if there's anyway at all you can pay them something every month. Maybe you could ask your parents for some help. You're likely to get an earful, but it's better than ruining your credit.

If you don't have any money, it will still be okay. The debt will stay on there for seven years but it will eventually come off and then you will be able to buy a house. Just learn from this lesson, that's the most important thing. Don't do this again. So many people get into so much trouble with credit and wind up ruining their lives, getting in like $40,000 of debt and having nothing to show for it. Live within your means, and don't live on credit.

Keep paying your remaining bills on time. Pay the delinquent credit cards ASAP and then be patient. It will take some time, but you will be able to turn your credit around. Please remember that at your age, you haven’t had time to build up a long history so a delinquency will hit you harder than someone who’s 25 o3 30.

Use this experience as a reminder to adjust your habits in the future so this doesn’t happen again.

You obviously have some kind of sense if you're paying your other bills so call those companies you owe and try to make payment arrangements before they send it to a Collection Agency and it makes your credit even worse. Then make sure they report it to the Credit Bureau AND you have it added it to your credit report that you are paying on the delinquent bill. Or just disput the amount owed with the credit bureau, tell them why (you're paying) and they will indicate it on you credit report.

Good luck!

the only help I can give you is to advise youto live within your means, don't spend more money than you have and pay your debts. I would further advise you to sell your computer and use the money to pay down some of your debt instead of wasting your time on Yahoo anaswers.

The best thing to do is get the names and numbers of the people you owe then call and try to settle a price with them that youll pay them back.also you can go to a debt consolodation and thell put your whole total you owe in monthly payments that should help also.they take it off your record or eeither just lower your payments

my suggestion is to pay everything on time, even if it is payment arragements.

but later in the future there are some things that you can do to repair credit (not right away but gradually) some banks have things like "loans against your money" and what this does is gives you a loan that you pay monthly like a regular loan but you have to put down the same amount as the loan. as you continue to pay... the money you put down is released.

it is hard to explain but im sure the banks can help you. my mom had to do this to repair her credit.

First off, you should realize how good it is to stay on top of your credit score from a young age. I'm 21 and very anal about my credit score.

At 19, most people don't have much credit anyways, so you're not in that bad of shape. You can do pay to delete options, which is where you pay off your debt to someone and in turn they remove the delinquency from your report. JUST GET EVERYTHING IN WRITING BEFORE YOU PAY!

Don't get too upset about it, just do your best to stay current on all your bills now and your score will get better.

1. Pay off all outstanding credit card debt as soon as possible.

2. ALWAYS pay your bills on time from now on.

3. Sign up for a credit monitoring system where you can access your report/score on an ongoing basis to see it improves over time. It isn't going to happen overnight, so try to have patience. You need to re-build trust with lenders everywhere.

4.Cut up all of your credit cards. Pay in cash for only the things you need. You can get another credit card after you have repaired your credit and become proficient in how to manage your finances better.

5. Whatever you do, DO NOT claim bankruptcy. DO NOT listen to any slick lawyers try to convince you that it's a good idea.....it never is. They say it only stays on your record for a certain period of time, but many lenders will ask you to your face if you have EVER claimed bankruptcy when applying for credit. It's a permanent black mark, so avoid that at all costs.

PS-Don't do debt consolidation-it exists to help those companies profit....after all, they wouldn't be in business if they weren't making $$. Debt consolidation almost always has a catch to it. All you have to do is get organized, and keep track of your stuff. Make a dry erase board with all of your bills listed on them and put the monthly due dates next to them.

Also, don't sell your computer...you will need it to monitor your credit.

PPS-YES YOU SHOULD WORRY ABOUT BAD CREDIT.

I am going through the same thing. I am in the process not of mailing my debitors letters to arrange some kind of payment plan. I need help too! However, I managed to keep most of my revolving accounts in good standing just like you. seems the smallest credit blip damns you!

Well, your young enough where you can change this without long term repercussions.

The first thing you should do is look for a debt consolidation program. They can help you manage your debt. Secondly, stop living above your means.

I can't see why a 19 year old college student would need three credit cards, but that's a separate issue. From now on just start paying your current bills on-time.

And don't apply for any new types of credit accounts every time you apply for credit your score will go down. It's not fair and no creditor will tell you that either.

I may sound like a jerk, but I really do feel for you. I didn't know how important good credit was until it was too late. I've been fixing mine for years and now it's somewhat decent.

It's too bad you had to learn the hard way though.

hi

First dont worry about bad credit so much. First of all, people with bad credit also do get home loans. the only downside is that you may have to pay higher interest or a bigger down payment. Search the internet for "home loans for people with bad credit" or "bad credit home loans". You would get hundreds of results and you can narrow down results to your local area.

But this solution is secondary. You need to first understand a few things:
1. Go in for Debt Consolidation. This way you would pay same loan at a cheaper rate.
2. If you intend to improve your credit, keep on paying your EMIs regularly. this would eventually increase your credit score.
3. WHen you have your student loan repayment after 6 months, be regular in that too. A regular EMI would reflect impressingly on your credit account.
4. When you apply for a home loan, you need to submit your last 6 months bank statement. Your regular EMIs would add as a bonus to your application processing.
5. If you use credit cards, make sure to atleast pay minimum amount by the due date. atleast it would save you from negative points.
6. Dont worry about bad credit so much at such an early age. There is still plenty of time to improve it and by the time you are ready to take a home loan, you would have good credit score automatically.

Hope it helps. Message me if you need more help. I write constantly for Bad credits, mortgages, home loans, credit cards, debt consolidation, etc.
