I know this may seem obvious and I am not trying to be sarcastic but how did they get maxed?? Are you still charging things?? Did you charge unnecessary things to get it that high?? I see people everyday calling in saying they can't make their payments and need a lower rate, etc...but when I look at their statements they are still charging things like Blockbuster, McDonalds, Macy's, etc...
My first suggestion would be to take a long hard look at what you are spending your money on. If you are truely stuck, start cutting out all but the basics. This means no videos, unnecessary phone bills, call waiting, Starbucks. It may be hard at first but I'm sure there are plenty of things you can actually do without. A part-time job probably wouldn't hurt either, just until things can get under control. Then start negotiating with you creditors and see if you can get a lower interest rate, work hard on reducing your spending and paying down the debt. Even if you could get more credit, I wouldn't because until you can change your lifestyle, the new credit would maxed again soon as well.
If you are truely in over your head go to Consumer Credit Counseling and they will help you with the above mentioned ideas. Good luck. With a little sacrifice you will see a light at the end of the tunnel. |

First of all, how old are you?
Bankruptcy is not the answer. Find a reputable credit counseling service (check with the BBB in your area) and work with them to establish affordable repayment plans. Then, you need to cut up those credit cards and start learning to live within your financial budget. |

All hope is not lost. Hang in there. Debt consolidation can help. But first, you must get control of your spending. You MUST stop using the credit cards now. Then, you have to make sure that you are not spending more than you bring in each month. If this means that you must cut off the cable and stop eating out, then this is what you have to do.
Consolidation loans can be hard to come by if you have maxed out your cards. The low percentage of available revolving credit hurts your credit score. Most banks will avoid giving loans to people in your situation. I suggest your try social lending. This is where you ask for a loan, and a group of people loan you out the money at a fixed rate. Here is the site that I use, https://secure.lendingclub.com/landing.action?referrer=samoan3d . It is free to sign up and get a rate quote, so you don't have to worry about a catch. If you sign up, let me know your username and I will try to help fund your loan. |

Call your parents, grandparents and any other relatives that you haven't spoken to in forever. Now is the time to ask for help, no matter how humiliating. |

Have you considered working with a debt consolidation company?
Working with a debt consolidation company does work, they will work with creditors to reduce your rates and balances. My wife and I worked with one several years ago and we were very happy.
Unfortunately it will affect your credit, thats just the way it works! Get your debts paid off and in a couple years your credit score will start to bounce back.
Here is the company we worked with. |
