I am confused by free annual credit report?
You know how you get those free annual credit score reports by the 3 credit companies...well let's say you checked it today on March 27th, so anything added after March 27th to your credit report cannot be viewed the next free year, huh? I'm talking about free annual credit reports, not the ones you pay. Thanks!

Jessica S
Correct. You can not view that bureau's report until the next year if you have already viewed it this year. So anything added after you have viewed it, you will not see on that report until the following year unless you pay to see it or to be updated with changes regarding your report.
:)
** Keep in mind, the more inquiries you have towards your credit report, the more strikes against you. Hope this helps.

The free annual credit report just means that the website offers you a free credit report annualy without charge, but after you keep the membership every time you want to check the status of your credit you need to pay. Instead, sign up with one of your credit card companies. On a portion of the website it tracks your score and monitors your credit inquiries.

You are allowed one free report from EACH of the main 3 agencies(TransUnion, Experian, Equifax). You do not have to get them at the same time. So you could get TransUnion(for example) today, then in 4 months get Experian, then 4 months later get Equifax. Remember that this is just your REPORT, if you want your SCORE that will always cost you no matter where you go to get it.

But if you did happen to get all 3 today, if you want another free one you would have to wait until next year.

The other way to get a free copy is if you are ever declined for credit. If you send a copy of the denial letter to the Credit Agency you also can receive a free copy. The one you get from being denied does not count against your free credit report. Although if you do this very often it is doing you more harm than just paying for a report because each "Hard" inquiry will count against you.

Just be sure you are going to http://www.annualcreditreport.com which is the official site for the free report.

It's called annualcreditreport.com. You can call them toll free @ 1-877-322-8228. As suggest, you can request 1 every 4 months from each bureau.

There is only one official website that offers your annual credit report FREE. It is www.annualcreditreport.com The others are scams. See the article below to learn more and to learn about correcting anything invalid on your report.

Yes Jordin, that is true. You have to wait another year.

You can always sign up for a service (for a fee) to monitor your credit.

If you ever have someone pull your credit (auto loan, mortgage loan, furniture loan etc.) you can then request a free copy of you credit report from each bureau.

For more information on bureaus, addresses, phone numbers and how credit is scored visit here:

If you received all three reports at once for free and there were changes to your credit afterwards, you would not be able to see those changes until the next year. If you wanted to see updates on your report, it would mean purchasing them because it's considered a new report.

Most people get a free report from one credit bureau every 4 months and repeat the cycle every year.

lisa s
I dont see what you are confused about. The way that the experts tell you to use this is to use www.annualcreditreport.com to get one every four months..obviously you would get one from transunion in lets say june, then in Sept, you would get another one from equifax and so on......
If you want to see more then you either have to pay OR
if you get turned down from an application that you put in for credit, you can get a free one from whatever credit service that the grantor used to make its decision to not extend you credit
