I am getting my first credit card, which one do i get?
okay, so i am getting married in six months, and i need a credit card. what are some things i should know before i sign up, because i know nothing about credit cards at all, isn't there some sort of a monthly payment i have to make to keep the card, even though i don't use it that month? i'm just looking for a credit card crash course, and the best answer gets top points and much thanks from yours truly. thank you in advance.

If you have never had credit, you may need to just go with the bank that is willing to give you a credit card. I have heard that Capital One is fairly easy with issuing cards with little to no credit. Your best bet is to talk to your bank first though. Explain to them what you want to do and they will help you. Also, it's much easier to talk to someone in person and I'm sure they will give you a great crash course in credit cards.

Watch the terms offered when you decide to apply somewhere. Be sure to get the terms BEFORE you give them all your personal information. Make sure there are no annual fees and that there is a grace period between when you are billed and when you have to pay. There are some cards out there that start charging you interest immediately when you use the card. You do not want one of those.

You should not have any payments to make if you do not use the card and paid the balance in full the month before. Try never to use more than you can afford to pay off when the bill comes. This is how people end up with more debt than they can afford and no end in sight to payments on it. It can be difficult just to keep up with the interest, never mind getting it paid off, if the balance becomes large.

Congrats on your marriage and good luck.

The most important thing about credit cards is to be sure you pay them in full every month. If you find that you cannot pay in full, stop using the card until you get your finances under control.

Also, if you pay in full, you will never pay a dime in interest.

You only pay a minimum if you carry a balance. if your balance is $0, you pay no minimum. Some cards charge an annual fee. If you have no credit, you may not have much choice, but try to get a card with no annual fee.

As for where to get a card, start with your local credit unions. They are generally more willing to work with people with limited credit than the large banks.

Whichever card you choose...READ THE FINE PRINT!!!!!!!!!!

I mean it. Read it, and understand it.

heyyou
Lowest interest rate that you can find
One that has no monthly fee
Visa or MasterCard is better than American Express (some places will not take AE)
The ones that you can round off to the next dollar amount are good....you can build up a little savings

Do some research online. A good card will have a low interest rate (8-12% APR) and no annual fee. I have a card from Chase and I have had no trouble.

Rule one don't get a credit card, Rule two if in doubt see rule one.

there are a couple of ways you could start building credit, you could get a small personal loan which you might need a cosigner or the best way will be getting a credit cards, you could get a credit card and use it for your every day expenses but make sure you pay in full at the end of the month that way it will show pay in full everytime the credit card company reports to the credit beuros. At the begining you will only be approved for the lower end credit cards but once you build credit in about 6-9 months you should be able to apply for a better card with better benefits such as free miles or cash back. Check out www.fastcardapprovals.com or fastcreditcardapprovals.com and go under bad credit section and you will find a few choices. Unless you are a student then apply for a student credit card this cards have no annual fee and lower rates.

I suggest you start out with a secured card since this is your first card. You can get one from your bank, give them a deposit which is usually $300 to $500 and that becomes your balance. Since this is your fisrt card, be sure to pay it off each month...something I didn't do when I had my first card. Learn from all of are mistakes on yahoo answers.
