If the account is only in your name and she is just an authorized user. Then call up the credit card company and remover her from the account. They will cancel the cards and send you a new number. This also applies if she is not on the account but has access to your card number.
If the account is a joint account, that is you are both responsible it will depend on the bank. Some companies will split the account into 2. However if there is a balance they usually won't split the balance between the two cards. So one of you may have to be willing to take the balance, or have to pay it off first. If they won't split it then you need to close out the account.
IF by some chance you can't close out the card then you need to keep track of ALL of her purchases on the account after you separated. Then during the divorce preceedings you need to include those in charges she made. If you split any of your assets this will be taken into account. |

first cancel all the cards and get new ones only in your name
next contact all 3 credit reporting agencies and put alerts on them, so if she attempts to use your SS# you will be immediately notified....and she will be locked from it.

Besides canceling the card, you could notify the CC company of your situation and ask that any time a purchase is made that they verify you are the only one using it. If the card is in both your names, you could try the above, but good luck. When you're sharing credit, until the divorce is final you're simply going to have to pray she doesn't do anything stupid. If you're trying to prevent her from opening new credit in your name, then call all the major credit agencies and alert them that fraud may take place. They will put an alert on your report and if she tries to do something behind your back she'll be stopped. Good luck. |

All these answers are great. However if you choose to cancel the credit cards make sure you pay them off before you get any new ones that are just in your name. Otherwise this is a sure way to get deep into debt. |

Contact a divorce lawyer to freeze the accounts. In the meantime, close all of those joint credit cards and write the credit agencies telling them you are no longer responsible for her charges and that you want to stop your credit from being used on new accounts.

Consult the Citezens advice bureau , ithink you might be able to do it over the internet .
They might advise you to consult a solicitor , in any case just to put the wind up her draft a very official letter of an out of town solicitor that should hold her up till you get advice , how typical and unprincipled and petty but particulary a female trait to use the relationship after its all over dont get bitten again dont marry or cohabit , drink the milk dont buy ''the cow'' |
