Yes -- done it myself. You aren't really in front of a judge. All they do is put a judgment against you. It's sad -- it is frightening but don't be scared -- you'll have a LOT OF COMPANY. When I went they sent a lawyer from our area and he said "don't be so upset, it's just a debt" -- but we've had serious issues because of cancer, theft, etc. and thought we were going to be okay and then NOPE. (THAT is the US anymore)!! Just let it happen -- they wouldn't accept my payment offers then either because they were too low. LATER, after it happens, you'll get mail for subpoenas for your records -- just trash them.....don't worry about it and just keep caller ID......I finally figured out that I would end up dying from stress of it all......and said "I give up" ---- I can't possibly pay back the money I owe right now and they wouldn't accept anything I offered so screw them. I worked in law for over 16 years and my email is open here so if you want, you can send me a message :)

If you paid the debt like you were supposed to, none of this would be happening!
But yes, I'm terrified if I have to go to the courthouse. Don't worry, the worst thing that can happen is a judgment against you for what you owe.

Call legal aid. Maybe they can get a probono lawyer for you. But call tomorrow.

try and call the credit card company now and work out a settlement, then ask them to cancel the court date.

the judge will simply ask you to make arrangements to pay. unless the judge asks you to get an attorney, it depends on your situation. you may want to contact money management international, go on line and print out your request to them and bring it with you to court---moneymanagement.org--- a non profit agency. At least you can tell the judge that you are on the road to bettering your financial situation. good luck.

Bring proof of income and proof of the bills you pay and be prepared to either ask to set up a payment plan that is within your budget or ask the judge to put off payment for 6 months. The judge may reschedule another hearing in 6 months at which time you will appear before him again so he can determine if you can begin making payments at that time.
You may be able to work out a payment plan with the credit card company representative before going in front of the judge.
Do not be nervous. Many, many, many people have been in the same place you are in. Once the hearing is over you won't be charged any more interest fees. The judge will give a judgement for a set dollar amount and that is the most you will owe so this is really not a bad thing.

First...good luck. Second, depending on how much the credit card debt is, it might be in your best interest to grab a lawyer real quick. The lawyer will be able to negotiate that the CC company accept a lesser balance among other things. Don't go into the Lion's den unarmed.

Hey don't worry if you have not committed any crime you will be fine. Its obvious that during first appearance in court people feel nervous but actually there is nothing to worry about because they will ask you questions that can be answered in yes and no see this http://stuarthanlonlaw.com/blog/the-arraignment/. You can also apply for bail and adhere to courts rules as well as "not guilty" plea to guard yourself against the charges.
