Only keep one or two with low balances, but try to use them every now and then to show that you pay your bills. This helps your credit. It actually hurts you not to use it if your trying to improve your credit score. Be patient it usually takes a couple of years to get up to the 750-800 range with no negatives or late payments. |

A big part of your credit score is based on the ratio of revolving debt to available credit limit. When you close accounts, you lower your overall available limit. If you have balances on any of your credit cards, you debt ratio will increase. Carrying balances of more than 30% of your available limit, kills your score.
Closing accounts will also close their payment history, which could also ding your score.
I recommend that you don't close any accounts if you have balances. Pay off the balances first. Then keep the two oldest major credit cards that do not have annual fees. Only keep store or gas charge cards if you have some special purpose and actually use them. Close accounts via letter and request written confirmation that the account has been closed and 0 balance. Closed accounts tend to come back to life. |

how many accounts do you have? close all but one account, then go about opening a savings account. Actually saving money is a very good way to increase credit ratings. finance companies want to see that you can regularly save. (in order to make repayments on time) |

If you keep them open it will show banks that you are able to have a credit card without maxing it out. That's good! But having too many accounts open can also hurt your credit. Just make sure you pay on time. Use the credit cards to buy gas or whatever and pay it off every month, that will help your score a ton. |

Keep them open and use your credit...keep about 30% continuous balance on your credit cards...this will help you in the short and long term! I hope this has helped |

yes it will make it worse! keep your credit cards once they are paid off. just learn to not use them and it will increase your score to have them, but have no debt on them. |

I have to agree with foxygirl... I would not have been approved for my car loan had I not had a savings account that showed regular deposits and no withdrawals. |

ok to close them it will not affect you but if you want to get better credit.. i suggest you leave them open and just dont use them..hide them somewhere or do something because whenever you have a credit card open and its paid off..that builts up your credit..or what you can do also is charge your credit card and then right away when you get home..pay it off online and you wont get the interest because you already paid the amount you spent..that way you will syat at owing 0 dollars but at the same time your credit will rise..thats what I do |
