I work in the credit card industry, and I see questions like this all the time. Once and for all, I'm going to give you the answer you should know. Under federal law, you have to be 18 in order to establish an individual account. One thing that you might do if your parents are willing would be to add you as an authorized user to one of their credit cards. |

YES. I got a card when I was 16, through Chase. They were the ones to actually get in contact with me and offer me the card. The only problem is, the interest rate was pretty high, somthing like 80%, but I only used it for buying school books for college and such. Also, I needed a parent's signature. That was pretty much it. If you go to Chase's website, they may have more info on that specific type of card. It was some years ago though so it could have changed.
BTW, no matter what card you get, you'll get an extremely low balance because you have no credit history but its your first card, so you'll just have to slowly build it up. |
