i purchased a bunch of items online through abcdistributing and ltdcommodities when i was 16 or 17, a couple hundred worth, buy now pay later sort of thing, they won't stop calling and sending letters, because i am in a contract to pay, but here in Iowa you cannot legally enter into a contract until your 18, plus they sent me margarita mix and in the store you can't even buy that here until your 18, so am i legally obligated to pay or can i have it removed from my credit??? i know it's my fault but they had my ss# and everythng they should've known i wasn't 18.... |

You have some terrible answers here.
True that if you lied about your age it could constitute fraud, but other than that you do not have any obligation to pay this debt, assuming you did not continue charging to these accounts after you turned 18.
Send certified letters to the collection agencies and credit bureaus stating that you were a minor when this debt was incurred and it needs to be removed immediately. |

They were stores - you just didn't actually go there to get what you wanted. But not paying for things you got from a store is still stealing. Not only will your credit be ruined if you don't pay, but you could also face fines and jail time. Pay up, sucka. |

hmmm,iowa doesnt matter,you committed a felony referred to as wire fraud,used the internet to buy illegally,represented yourself as an adult,id pay the bills off,otherwise if they press the issue,you may very well find yourself residing in a federal prison,i kid you not.Its not up to them to verify if you were 18 or not,you represented yourself as being of legal age,pay them.
At the age of 16 you can be charged and tried as an adult. |

sounds like you knew a little about the laws, Parents are legally held responsible for their minors. I guess if you do not want to pay the bills out of your own pocket the court system can make a judgement that your parents will. If you were my child, you would be working and paying off your debt and a lesson well learned on your part. You are not setting a very good example of your morals. |

Depend if it goes to court. If it does you will probally lose and the company will get orders to get tighter on who they sell to. |

It could be a question of fraud on your part if you falsified information in whatever validation system they have in place to verify the information you gave them or if you gave them false information. Did you try to return the items to them? |
