Call the credit card company and try to make payment arrangements. They will work with you on this by reducing your monthly payment, 0% interest or lowering the interest and stopping late charge's. It will affect your credit. You wont go to jail, we no longer have debtor's prison. If you don't pay, you are looking at possibility of being sued. If they get the judgement, you are looking at court costs and legal fees added to the original amount. Depending on the state you live in they can put a lien on your home, garnish your bank account or garnish your paycheck--up to 25%. Try to work it out before it goes that far. Good Luck. *** |

They can call you every day.
They can turn you over to a collection agency, and the agency will call you every day.
They can sue you and garnish your wages, if they win a judgment. |

Most of the answer below are correct in some form or fashion, except for going to jail. That won't happen. You should try to find a way to pay these accounts off, by all means talk to your creditor or find a company that will consolidate your bills. But, don't ignore or decide not to do anything at all, you will soon see that it is your worse nightmare. Never ending harassment, ridicule, debt, embarrassment, sorrow, high rates, no money etc. Just not worth it. |

It's possible they could seize money from your bank accounts. If you have joint accounts, such as with a parent, even though your parent is the primary account holder (the one whose SS# is listed), they could seize that money also. They may also be able to have money taken from your pay check. All of this would require a court order, but those are not all that difficult to come by sometimes. If you have substantial other assets, they could possibly force a bankruptcy proceeding to have those assets liquidated. Mostly they are happy to keep adding penalties and interest hope that you keep making minimum payments. |

Collections calls. Law suits. When your FICO score gets hit, it causes all sorts of things to go up like your insurance costs etc. Premiums are set by FICO scores now. |

The creditor(s) can force you into bankruptcy and liquidate your assets at their discretion. They can also garnish your pay and your bank accounts if you have any. |

You can't even pay the minimum at least? Why did you spend more than you can afford? |

Nothing. Legally you can't go to jail for debt. The only thing you risk is having a low credit score which will make it hard for you to get loans and any other type of credit in the future. If you need help paying those bills check out http://surveys4cash.cjb.net it's a good way to earn some extra cash. |
