I had the same problem. Seems that the society wants everyone to be in debt!! I solved my problem by getting out a credit card. I bought about £50 worth of clothes. An amount I knew I could easily pay back. I paid the money back almost straight away. I then Snapped the card in half and never used it again. Then I had a credit history and a good one so I was able to get a mobile phone on contract. Sorted. It also helped when I got a mortgage. |

I had this exact same problem and the only way round it is to get credit.
I got a credit card, used it once, paid it off straight away and then put it to the back of a drawer.
I had an instantaneous credit history and it showed as a good payer.
I'm afraid its the only way round it. You can use catalogue accounts as well, but they aren't as good as a credit card. |

I had that problem. To get a credit history, you need a credit card but to get a card, you need a history! ArrgghhHH!! My fiance had a credit card and he put my name on it so that gave me a history. Then I managed to get a card, it's only for £190.00 or something but it is a start. Other than doing it that way, I really don't know how you are going to do it. x |

I recently got this book from the library that was VERY helpful it is called Your Credit Score How to Fix, Improve, and Protect the 3-digit Number that Shapes Your Financial Future by Liz Pulliam Weston. It has a whole chapter on how to build your credit score if you don't have one. Examples
1. Check your credit score, if you have one. (correct any errors that you might not know are on there)
2. Set up a checking and savings account.
3. Use someone else's good name. (get a co-signer)
4. Apply for credit while you are a college student.
5. Apply for an alternate card. (secured credit or gas card)
6. Get an installment loan. (after you have used plastic responsibly for several months you might consider a small auto or personal loan)
I highly recommend getting this book from your local library or purchasing it because it is very informative. I didn't know how much you credit score effects your life until I read this book. Did you know car insurance rates go by your credit score??!! If you have a low score you will pay higher premiums! You will get so many different answers from people who really don't know. GET THIS BOOK at least you know the author had to do research and print the facts. |

to have a credit history, you need to have had credit in the past and show that you've used it wisely. I started with clothes catalogues, and since i've had credit cards, loans etc.

You need to establish credit card accounts (visa, mastercard, discover, amex). In order to build good credit you need to pay your bills on time. Here is a great site where you can apply for a credit card online http://www.ccvault.com/ |

The best thing is, of course, to build credit. If you get a card, make sure to go with one that has a low percentage rate, no higher than 10%. My bank offers credit cards, so I have been considering them, since it's more likely to be stable. Make sure to only charge small amounts that are easily payable, as well. |

If you have a bank account check to see if they have an interest free overdraft facility agree a low sum, use it a little but always make sure that you don't go over the limit and make sure your account regularly goes into credit.(be a model customer) If you have a salary have it paid into your bank account and this way you'll build up some credit history. If you use your bank account wisely this will open other doors for you. Hope this helps |

I had the same problem, I went to my bank as they know your finance best and will hapily give you a credit card. I got one with a limit of £100 and spent £40 and paid it off in installments, the reason why is because if you pay it back in one go sometimes that doesnt show how good you are because you havent had the credit card in use long enough? Also for some strange reason credit card companies prefer it when you pay the smallest amount (because they get all your interest). Be aware that once you get a credit histpry and its good, they will chuck stuff at you. |

Do you pay rent? Do you pay utlities? Do you have a car and pay car insurance? If you do, as you know they don't report on your credit unless you DON'T pay and it to collections. PRBC, a new credit bureau decided to change that

most of the ways people are saying about buying a credit card and using it once wont' work they want a credit of good payments for a long period of time so do what they do just keep on using a less then 1/3 of your credit limit each month and pay it off. |
