I forgot to pay my discover card payment. Will it affect my credit score?
I was just busy over the holidays and missed it. I paid it on my computer after I got off work last nite, but I am so embarrassed because they called me at work and wanted the payment then and their like I was some kind of a criminal.
Will this cause any adverse affect on my credit worthiness?
Additional Details
I just bought a kitchen table on the card. Should I pay off the balance? Will it help?

Shouldn't be any huge deal if it was not past due over 30 days. I've had them call me before when I forgot but it was not as if I was a criminal, they seemed to be trying to help to make sure there wasn't a problem. Don't take the tone of voice of the one individual too seriously, there's a lot poor employees out there who don't understand their company's "mission." This is NOT siginificant, as a one time event.

I understand that you missed it by a day, but I would talk to the credit card company and make arrangements to pay it up, as soon as possible of course.

if this is your first and only missed payment you may not be affected. but if it's continuous...be more careful.

Yes, it will impact your credit score.

More importantly, watch your statement closely. Since your account was delinquent,, you will most likely see an increase in the interest rate you are being charged (part of the fine print in most CC agreements these days).

Starry Eyes
yeah it will. but if this is your first missed payment it won't put that much of a dent on it. no worries man.

nope, they will give you charge you a late fee (after 30 days) after 60 days they report it to the credit bureau.

It won't show up if they don't report it. Depending on the company, if you usually pay on time and send it in as soon as possible they might not report the late payment. I was late a few months back on my credit card and not only did it now show up, they still had me listed as having payed on time when I got my report a few months after that.

Typically most credit cards will let you miss one payment in a 12 - 18 month period and it will not adversly affect your rate or credit score. Discover is a good card and if you have always made payments on time they probably won't do it.

If they do raise your rate I would call them and hopefully if your balance is low and you have been a good client in the past I would ask them not take action against you or if they do trasnfer to some other card. They won't want to lose your business if you have been always paying in a timely manner.

Mariposa
It will not affect your score unless you are 30 days late. As for the table, if you pay it off early (before you get the bill), it won't help you, but it will make you debt usage compared to credit limit availability look like a smaller percent (which will temporarily increase your score a little).

no n
it wont post to your credit report for 30 days. just pay it

logan
It will show up on your credit burea as late. But there is something you can do to help. First off have you had the discover card for awhile? if so then I would suggest calling them up and plead a little. You will probably have to get a supervisor though. If you have had a good payment history they may overlook it and not report you as late.
Otherwise make sure you keep all your payments on time. As long as you paid it the damage won't be huge. But it will hurt a little.
