I got scammed on ebay, can anybody help me catch this lady who scammed me of $270 to track her down?
Well, I was on ebay, this lady had a listing of a walmart gift card, she supposibly had an extra card worth $500 and was selling for $270. I emailed her outside ebay and set up payment through greendot moneypak. I sent her the code for the reloadable code, which I regret and then was waiting for her to email me back. Within 8 hours or that moment she closed down her ebay account. She said she was going to email me back right away. 2 days later she said she sent it and gave me a phoney tracking #, obvioustly it didnt work and I have no way of getting in contact with her. She scammed me and now I want to hunt her down to get my money back. Here is her contact info, name VICKKI CULVER - AS OF 2003 AGE 34. CITY AS OF 2003: OIL CITY, PENNSYLVANIA. PHONE NUMBER AS OF 2003-(814) 676-2010 ADDRESS AS OF 2003-406 4TH STREET If anybody knows her or can lead me to track her down, I would appreciate that. Or any ideas that can help me find current info about her so I can get my $ she stole

Forget the police. You have little to no information and if Vicki lives outside your state, their hands are tied. Unfortunately unless you have a private detective hired there is little to nothing you can do. The disturbing thing is that you note that "as of 2003..." this is her address and phone number. I would bet when you do a reverse phone number search on the number it shows up as non-existent. This happened to me on eBay and I lost an xBox my son just purchased to a phony in Nigeria who used a vacant lot as an address. I won't go into the details, I was just stupid. Place a complaint with eBay though in the meantime. Did she close down the eBay account or did they? She probably has done this before. I made the mistake of working outside eBay on that XBox scam myself. This has taught me a BIG lesson. It was a $320 lesson...you got off a little easier. NEVER negotiate outside eBay. Legitimate sellers won't do it. I know, shut up....damage done...don't rub salt in the wound. I hope that someone does know her and let's you know where to find her. Then it is small claims court for you. She'll never own up to her thievery or make good. Just move on. I know, it stings.

She most likely doesn't even live at the address that you have listed, and it's probably not her name either.

First mistake: Going outside of e-bay.

Second mistake: Not using Paypal.

The police won't do anything because she is out-of-state.

Dude!
Ebay warns all users not to go around them. there's reasons for this. You just found one.

Dude, you have all this info, contact the district attorney in her home town and talk to them. They can find her and prosecute her. Did you finalize the buy through eBay, or did you end up doing it outside of eBay. If you did it through eBay, contact them and tell them as well. But you should remove this info because someone might see it and alert her that you are looking for a way to get to her.

hi if you paid via paypal they can resolve it and refund you the money or i would suggest calling her local police departmnt and file a report.

prob not her real name.....go thru paypal next time

I hate to break it to you but you may never get your money back even if you do track her down (Which I doubt you will). Never use an alternative method of payment. Although not perfect paypal is the safest way to pay for anything on eBay or the Internet period. It is possible someone hijacked or made a fake account. There is no way to know for sure if any of the information this person has used to cover their tracks is even real or theirs. I've been scammed on eBay too and I know it sucks but learn from this and proceed with caution. I hope you do find this person. Just take comfort in this fact... If they are doing this regularly it will catch up to them soon enough...

You may be out of luck here. The gift card scam is pretty common. People steal stuff from stores and then return the unopened mechandise. They get store credit in the form of gift cards and sell them for cash. The problem is that even if you do contact the police, you could be on the hook for trying to receive stolen goods since this scam is pretty common. Her hope was that you sent her the money in an untracable way. Had you sent it using PayPal or some other means of tracing, she probably would have completed the transaction since she is still ahead.

Good luck but you broke eBay rules by making an arrangement outside the site, so they won't help you. Sorry! The police are your only hope.
