tell the bank and they can take it back. if you have spent it then you caould get in trouble and the bank will take it back off you when money goes into your account |

Do you know where it came from? Check on online banking. Maybe somebody generously put money in your account.
Or perhaps it was an accident?
Are you stuck between choosing what to do? Be the good person and inform your bank that money was misplaced in your account, or be a naughty and keep the money to yourself?

Either own up, or just keep using your account as if the money wasn't there - sooner or later, they'll realize they made a mistake - or the person the money WAS meant for will come in & query it, & then your account will be debited by that amount. But don't use it til you're sure - or you'll find yourself in the red & incurring charges for going overdrawn. |

Definitely tell your bank. Otherwise, at some point the bank is going to figure out the mistake themselves, remove the money without telling you, and checks you've written are going to bounce. |
