I have $15K in the bank, and I owe $15K in credit cards, should I use that money to pay off the credit cards?
or,,, keep the money in the bank to live off if I lose my job?

pay off your credit cards, that way you are debt free if unemployed.

Emma F
Pay them off. Then you can save money for an emergency fund (3 to 6 months expenses) and if you become unemployed you will have no debt to worry about! Good Luck!!

Absolutely pay off the credit card debt!

For starters, you are paying a huge interest rate on credit cards. You could take that money you saved and put it back into your savings.

Worried about job loss? How you going to pay off credit card debt with no income? You game is to just not pay, and let them go into collections? Meanwhile love off your savings for a few months?

You are trying to buy time until you can find a new job. So live off your credit cards for that period instead. You will put off collections for several months.

But in the short term, you will save a huge amount of money by paying them off now.

If you have $15,000 in the bank, why haven't you been paying your bills? Don't be a deadbeat.

It is foolish to be carrying that much credit card debt and paying all that interest when you have cash available. You should have been paying a lot more on those credit cards all along.

Pay off the credit cards. Then you will have all the money from those minimum payments to rebuild the savings.

I would say pay 14,000 dollars and keep at least 1000. you can always build your credit score over time but atleast keep some money.

General Custer
Pay off the credit cards and start saving again. The reduction in interest will allow you to save more. You can always use your cards if you lose your job.

AB
Use some of the money to pay off your credit cards but keep some in savings in case something happens and you lose your job.

Personally, I would pay off the lowest credit card balances with some of the $15k in the bank. Then, it should free up some $$ so that you can make more than the minimum payment on the other cards, starting with the ones that have the highest APR, while making the minimum payment on the lowest APR cards. It will take a lot of time to get them down, but the good thing is that your credit rating will go up as you get things paid.

Five years ago, I had balances on 5 different credit cards. I did exactly what I mentioned above and I now only have 1 card with a balance, and all the others are paid off. My credit rating 5 years ago was just over 700. Now it's just over 800 and I'm able to actually keep money in the bank and keep adding to it.

Good luck

Depends on how much the interest rate is on your credit card, and how much interest you're earning with the money on your bank. Whichever is highest wins. If your credit card interest is higher than your bank interest, then you should pay off your credit card because you're losing money faster than you're making it in interest.

Pay of as much of the cards as u can. If you loose your job and live off ur savings then the interest on the debt will build and ul end up in a worse situation, no job, more debt, and running out of money. Id rather be debt free and skint if i was jobless.

Only if you are positive you won't run up your credit card debt again.
