italiandudeinchicago | I have $6,000 in credit card debt, what's the best thing to do? |
I can't get a loan because I don't have any collateral. What' the best thing I can do? Should I get a balance transfer or is there any way I could get my credit card company to lower my interest rate since I'm paying 31%? |

If you have $6000 in credit card debt that you can't pay back, and now want a loan for something else, then you are living outside of your means.
Pay for things in cash. |

You must have missed some credit card payments for your interest to be so high. In your situation I would suggest that you make your payments on time for 6 consecutive months, then call up the credit card companies to lower your interest back to the standard purchase rate. You won't be able to lower the interest until then, they will not lower it until you get back into good standings, and they always say to wait 6 months.
If you can get approved for a new credit card that offers 0% for 6 or 12 months, then take that offer and DON'T MISS A PAYMENT, because you will lose that 0%, and start paying a ridiculous rate like 31% again.
What good is credit if it isn't there when you need it?
Keep up on your bills and you'll have good credit to get the cheapest loans around. |

Yes I agree with some of the others you need to take care of the $6,000 credit card debt before trying to take on a another loan, looks like to me (31%) your doing some stuggling now.
At all cost stay away from debt.
Get rid of your cell phone($70 a month) get a pre pay
Get rid of Cable save $60 - $100 and there you have enough to do what ever it is you need to do. |

You really want to get out of that card ASAP. The interest rate is way too high.
Try applying for a loan if you have a job. Look for the best offers in the market. Banks are competing for new customers. And you will definately be better of paying a loan that paying a high interest rate card that will almost keep you from paying the principal or original amount. They are designed for ruining your pocket and lasting 10-15 years.
At the bank, tell them that you want to pay off your card. You will need your latest card statement. And they will make a check for the pay off balance. Banks can offer you even 7-9% interest rate.
Not only you will get a better interest rate, you'll pay it off faster and you will improve or build up your credit score.
Hope to have helped you. Best Wishes!!! |

The best thing to do is to contact a credit counseling agency. They can get you a loan at a lower interest if you want and can talk with your creditors making settlements with them which can help reducing your payments upto 50%. I know a company which provides all type of debt consolidation solutions and that is ezconsolidation.com |

1. Pay off your highest rate cards/debts first. STOP USING CREDIT CARDS and pare them down. Revolving credit is a kiler to your budget.
2. Contact your debtors and see if you can negotiate a lower rate of interest in return for discontinuing use of the card.
3. Some agencies offer debt counseling at no charge. Check with your local social services agencies and other non-profits in the area to see if they can help or provide referrals.
Good luck.

Call your credit card company to see if they will lower the rate. Also, pay on time and pay more than the minimum if you can. Do not miss a payment. And if you do have another card you can transfer to, call the card it's on now and tell them how much lower the other rate is and ask them to match it. |

I agree with zerro. Cut back on some other luxuries for awhile and add those extra funds to your credit card payment. Pay on time ALL the time for at least 6 months and then call them ask ask if the rate can be lowered. STOP using the card as well. |

CUT THE CREDIT CARD.... it will not kill you.... then pay the credit card off....then pay for stuff with cash or debit card...
Debit card takes out of bank account not a loan. |

Opt for a debt consolidation loan: The easiest method of getting a debt consolidation loan is to utilize the equity of your home. Equity of your home is calculated and determined by the difference in the amount you have paid and the amount you owe. If the amount you have paid is more than the amount due, you can use it as collateral. This allows you to borrow money on lower interest rates. Besides, you also get tax benefit on this type of loan. Consult your tax advisor before opting for this loan.
