The reason that the cheque is in your husbands name is that he is the legal payee and therefore the only one entitled to the funds. My understanding is that no bank will permit cashing or depositing a third party cheque into an account other than the payee. I also understand that all cheques are now endorsed on the front with "account payee" which stops you from cashing the cheque. That is for your husband's protection. Even if you were entitled to cash a cheque, you will need rigorous ID plus you will probably be filmed. Does your husband know you intend to do this? Probably not, I suspect .... so why is that? I suggest that you be very careful unless you want to be embarrassed here! |

how about you dont cash your husbands check? Thats called fraud, and you will do jail time. |

You should only be able to cash it if he has made it payable to you. If it's in his name they should not give you the money, with or without ID. |

They will not cash it without ID or your husband! Just get your husband to cash it or are you thinking of committing fraud?! |

Yes, most likely. There is so much fraud going around in checks that they will ask.
Just have him cash it. |

He has to endorse the back of the check before it can be cashed at all. You will then have to provide ID and endorse under his signature. |

I'd think he would have to endorse it over to you before you could cash it, and you'd need ID also. Otherwise, how would they know who you were, and whether or not you had permission to cash his check? |

You need to get your husband to sign it on the back and then you sign underneath it. You will need to present ID. |

As others have said, what you are suggesting constitutes fraud. How long you spend in jail will depend where you are! |

he will most likely have to cash it, but you can try.. have him sign the back endorsement and you sign underneath his signature, that usually means he signed it over to you and you will need 2 forms of I.D. usually. |

Just ask him to cash it |

No - just pretend you're him, they never ask for ID or fingerprints, or anything. They TRUST you! (uh, duh) |

I dont know why people keep banging on about it being fraud to try and cash someone else's cheque without their knowledge, thats a load of balls. It is only classed as obtaining money by deception!
But that aside, stop tryin to rob your husbands money, if you have nothing to hide then surely you could just ask him to cash it and give you the money. |

I have never done this so I am not sure but usually if it is in your husbands name he would be required to cash it himself. He would need ID, usually 3 different items ,such as a Gas bill, rent book , driving license, phone bill. |

if they cash it at all for you you will need id and they will also want your husbands id probably |

Why go to a check cashing place where they will charge a fee? Are you taking something you should not and do not want him to know? Shame on you if so. Otherwise take it to your regular bank and they will cash it for you, you can sign his name and your name as his wife. |

Can't you deposit it in his branch? |

Not entirely sure but I'd take your ID and some form of your husband's ID if possible, just to be on the safe side. |
