Call them and cancel it.

call them to notify that youll no longer be using the card and youll pay it off when you can as you can so they wont stop sending you your payment statements then after its paid off they should automatically cancel it for you. they just add a note to your file. its pretty simple.

it doens't matter that you don't have the money in full to pay it. you could still cancel it and the bill will still be sent every month until you pay it. as long as you pay it every month.your credit will not get ruined. but if you cancel it it will guarantee that you wont use it anymore.
good luck
it looks better if you cancel it thna if the bank cancels it.
good luck

You can cancel it (meaning no more swipe out of that card, freeze it), but cannot close the account yet until balance is paid off.

Credit cards have become a necessity in society nowadays, you can't go anywhere without having to use one. That's why it's imperative to maintain a good<!--credit rating and use your credit card smart. Lots of credit card related question been asked here and yours just another one. Check it out this website, hope it helps.

After all, without a credit card, it's harder to live, and especially hard to shop online. Lots of credit card related-->questions are often being asked and yours is just another one.

Why do you need to cancel it before you pay it off? Just don't charge anything else.

Have you asked the cc company for a lower A.P.R. rate?
It won't lessen your balance but it will lower the finance charges you pay when you carry a balance month to month (15 bucks @ 9.99% vs 35 bucks @ 18%).
Or if your credit is still good, try to open a card with a zero balance for 6months to a year. You would not have to pay the finance charges as long as you were not late with any payments or made new charges.
Cancelling your card will lower your credit rate because you have a higher debt to credit ratio
(you look like you have less credit and more debt: you look like a big risk to the insurance, mortage and credit agencies)
Bottom line: that account is active until paid in full. You can't stop accrewing intrest charges because you can't pay the debt-The credit card company wouldn't make money that way!!!
If you default, they can legally sue you for fees plus what your last balance was.

John
Do not get another card and transfer the money because they will usually charge you a fee for doing that and then the new card will charge you a higher fee because it is concidered a cash advance.
