You can still open an account. They will simply refuse you a loan
and restrict you to debit & visa card. |

most high street banks will allow you to open a basic current account with just a debit card to use at cash machine and to pay for stuff at shops.
try hsbc and lloyds. they should offer you some solutions. best to go in and see them and explain your circumstances. |

well depends on how low< most banks will need you to have a min of like 560. My advice is to call banks and see what they require> good luck |

What sort of account do you want? Most banks offer a basic bank account regardless of credit history it lets you have direct debits and a cashcard but no overdraft or debit card. If you have been convicted of fraud, the only place you can open one is the post office. |

ok, i am going to assume this is UK as it is on UK answers.
You don't need good credit hisstory to open a bank account, however it will affect the type of account you can get. Without decent history you are not going to get a debit card. So I would go to halifax. They will give you an account with an electron card. OK its not accepted by everyone, but a lot do take it so you can pay by card. |

Check which banks you already dismissed in gaining your poor credit rating. Try avoid them and for a beginning try Building Society. Try to build up your rating again. It will be long ( 6 years of a good behaviour while old mistakes will go out) Good Luck and .. don't get in to that mess again. Trust me, it doesn't worth it |

Hopefully you are in the UK, as my answer wont mean much to you if you're not.
Alliance and Leicester do a current account which does not require a credit check, like a standard bank account, you can pay money in, withdraw money, and arrange direct debits.
What more do you need? |

Practically all UK banks operate what's known as a "Basic Bank Account.

This is the version offered by the Halifax:

You can open a bank account with less than stellar credit as long as you didn't default at that bank. |

One good way nobody tried yet ! Take some mates wearing balaclavas and guns, force your way into a bank, scream and order people to the floor, drop some money on the desk and ask the cashier to open an account for you or else ! |

You do need good credit to get a bank account nowadays, the Halifax def dont entertain you with a bad credit rating, some banks do basic accounts that are possible to get but they only issue cashline cards and dont allow direct debits or switch cards. The post office offer an account you could get but again it would be basic. |

Nationwide, Halifax and Post Office all have bsic bank accounts for people with poor credit history
You cannot have overdrafts, cheque books or credit cards with them...but you can have a debit card, cashpoint machine card, direct debits set up and payments made in by wage, cheque or cash |

you don't need a credit rating to open a bank account, you just need money to make a deposit. If you owe people money and are worried that they will go after your account, not much you can do about that other than pay your debts and then open an acount. |

Usually your credit rating will not affect your ability to open a checking or savings account. The only thing that banks check (atleast in the midwest) is something called "ChexSystems". This is where other financial institutions can report charged off deposit accounts. Opening a checking account will actually help to improve your credit rating as long as you do not overdraw. Try THE National Bank.. they offer tons of free stuff when you open your account and they do not check your credit score unless you are applying for some type of loan. www.thenb.com |

I dont' have very good credit either. The only reasons you might not be able to open an account is if you have had one before and wrote bad checks on it. Otherwise if not then you can open one. I have. Most banks just require a little bit of money to put in the account when you open up one. |
