loving_care_37601 | I have a problem paying 1 credit card, please read on & help, if you've been thru it or know what's best |
I have several credit cards & a loan. I've always paid my payments, perfectly. One card, however, is becoming very difficult. I guess it's the "fine print" kicking in. So I'm fine paying the rest of them. There's no way I can pay what they're expecting. To sum it up, this one credit card is expecting a payment of $478!! No way it can happen. What should I do? No sense in doing bankruptcy or even credit counseling, because it due to ONE cc. Should I just pay what I can (they're charging $39.00 a month late fee, which will make it worse). Or should I go ahead & quit paying it & let it go to a collection agency, which will cause them to ultimately accept a lower amount to pay it off? But I want to salvage my credit score as much as possible. I'm confused, what should I do? |

Try not to let it go to collections. That would be the worst on your credit and would not help you to "salvage" your credit score... ;)
Call the company, even if you already have, and let them know that you would like to please come to an agreement with them on paying the bill. They DO want their money, and as much as possible. If they get the feeling you simply cannot make payments to them in the large amount they are putting on the bill, they may be inclined to adjust the account in order to make it more doable for you. Let them know what you CAN afford to pay each month and that you DO want to keep paying your account on time each month. Tell them you need some assistance from them in working something out, as your budget just cannot afford $400 a month.
Your best bet is to communicate with them as much as possible and have them NOTE YOUR ACCOUNT when you talk with them, every time. Anything other than frequent and open communication directly with the credit card company, itself, will likely result in a bad reporting to your credit report.
Good luck chica! ;) |

When you make one payment late, all your other credit cards can raise thier interest rates! Can you transfer the balance on that one card to another card that won't charge you so much? Then put your cards away and stop using them since you are getting yourself in trouble with them! You are living beyond your means and it's going to catch up to you fast! |

Cut it up. |

pay it gradually as you can. paying something is better then nothing!
do not stop paying it!!!!!
it takes YEARS usually for them to accept a lower payoff and by that time the late fees and overage charges will make the amount they would accept more then you owe now! not to mention that will drag your credit through the mud during the process. |

I would say pay as much as you can on it. Focus on paying that one down - so, like, make the minimums on your others for a while and put the extra toward this one cc. Also, I would call them to see if they can do anything - let them know you are having trouble paying it and it isnt' that you don't want to pay it, but you are legitimately having problems, and see if there is anything they can do to help you. A lot of companies don't want to send you to collections, and will help you if they can.
Plus, it will stay on your credit report for a long time, and those collection calls are horrendous! You don't want to do that!
Plus, yeah - I'd cut it up ASAP. |

transfer it to a better card. save up and pay it off. 478 is not that bad. letting it go to collections is bad for your credit. |

I would roll the balance over onto another card, refinance something of worth or reopen a new account with one of those great 0 interest deals or something like that. |

You say you have several credit cards (not good, but what can you do now?) and a loan - can you possibly transfer any of the balance of this one card to your other cards? How about your loan - can you extend it to get any money to help pay off this one card?
If not, then your next bet is to call the CC company and tell them that you'd like to work with them to adjust your terms; many times these companies will make some compromises in order to get their money. That's all they really want. If they know you want to pay them, they are more willing to work with you than if you just let your account lapse. |

Do not stop payng, but it is time to get your financies in order. I'm assuming that with your "several credit cards" they all have balances on them ? If they are not at there limits take cash advances on them to pay the 478.00, although in reality this is just shuffling debt around and not reall fixing the problem.
To get to the core problem do the following;
Step 1 Stop using all Credit Cards. Cut them all up except for one EMERGENCY card.
Step 2 Make a list of short term debts listed with interest rates.
Step 3. If possible get a single Line of Credit at your bank to consolidate all of these credit card debts and then CUT UP the cards. Stop living on Credit the interest will kill you. If not possible then pick the card with the HIGHEST interest rate and pay as much as possible on that card. All other cards just pay the minimum.
Step 4. Just in case you did not see it before STOP using the Credit Cards |

DO NOT let it go to collections. You will just end up with lousy credit. BAD credit is very hard to over come. So, do your best to pay off/down that balance... balance transfer? make arrangements? borrow from family/friend?
Then... get more disciplined about your use of credit. Pay down all your cards to $0 - $25 and cut them up. Your credit will blossom, but you won't need to use it because you have learned to live on what you currently earn.
Best of luck! |

If your credit is good I would advise you to transfer it over to a better card with maybe a promotional rate and not close the card but use it every 3 months for a small ($10) charge. Try transferring to any account that offers like 0%, 1.9% - 3.9%. I am pretty sure it beats your current rate. |

I use Google for your answers.

Need more details. Is that the minimum payment ($478)? Is that a charge card and not a credit card? I asked this ? before and kinda don't understand, buy what you can afford...? |
