Beware of companies that promise to help you re-establish your credit for a fee. Their ability to change the information that appears in your credit file is no different than anyone else! Only your creditors are able to alter this information. Therefore you do not need to pay a third party to obtain, discuss, review or make changes to your credit report. You have the right to access your information and make changes to your file if there is an inaccuracy or if you want to include a comment.

The only way to rectify a poor credit rating is to adopt sound credit practices for a period of time.

use the fee and pay it toward your credit card debt. if you are asking if they can remove negative information by snapping their fingers and making it go away, yes they might be able to, only for you to find it right back with the next update to your credit reports.

those companies can do what you can do on your own. Go to the daveramsey.com website and get some ideas.

Opt for a debt consolidation loan: The easiest method of getting a debt consolidation loan is to utilize the equity of your home. Equity of your home is calculated and determined by the difference in the amount you have paid and the amount you owe. If the amount you have paid is more than the amount due, you can use it as collateral. This allows you to borrow money on lower interest rates. Besides, you also get tax benefit on this type of loan. Consult your tax advisor before opting for this loan.

Many are scams. They cannot do anything with your credit report that you can't do yourself.

The best way to improve your credit score is to pay all of your bills on time and to begin reducing those credit card accounts.

Stop charging, use cash. Pay off the highest interest credit cards first. Do not close any credit card accounts since that will lower you rating.

I used www.creditrepair101site.com

It is a do-it-yourself site that charges a nominal fee to cover costs (20 bucks I think). I got a great deal of satisfaction from doing it myself for myself and enjoyed being involved in the process. I will never have bad credit again.

Sorry, but I have found that fixing one's credit is all but impossible and takes years. I filed bankruptcy due to an illness that left me in financial tatters back in 2002. I have had only a few credit issues since then. A couple of Dr. bills that I forgot about went to collections. At any rate, 5 years later, I still can't get a mortgage, a car loan for less than 14% interest and a few high rate "bad credit credit cards". My score remains in the mid 500's, but that is still 100 points better than after the bankruptcy. I would recommend you pay as much as possible on your credit cards with the highest interest rates first, then once those are paid off continue to pay that same amount on to the lower interest rate ones. I went to Consumer Credit Counseling and this is what they recommend. Keep open the credit cards you have had the longest and only keep about 3. Make sure your cards don't stay maxed out, you want a low debt to income ratio. This I have found is helping raise my score. Also, don't get a mortgage when your credit is bad or you could get REALLY raked over the coals by predatory lenders. Whatever you do, DON'T file bankruptcy. It will provide you with 10 years of credit hell!

Gene, I would strongly caution you on dealing with anyone on the Internet. There is no quick fix. You should find a company in you local area that can help you. Do this call this counseling service 888-995-HELP, it's been approved by HUD to help folks with mortgage problems. But I'm sure they could point you in the right direction. This is going to be painful I'm afraid, but if you stick to your gun's and think smart and pay your bills, within a year you could be on your way to being with less debt. Best of luck!

NO!!!!!!!!!! Dont do it!!!!!! These are scams...

If you are in Credit Card and other problems, seek a non-profit Credit Counseling Service.

I too had unpaid debts which occured when I was a student. My credit was very bad as I had totally ignored final demands on loads etc. This resulted in my credit file showing these debts as status 8's. In the UK 0 is the best and 8 is the absolute worst. About a year after this happened I took out a big loan to clear it all off hoping it would improve my credit - It didn't! Basically because all credit info is stored for 6 years, potential creditors still had access to my credit history, ie, these loans etc and even though they were paid off the fact that they got to 'defualt' stage in the first place was still provided. Bottom line is that the default info was still on my credit file even after the debt was paid, so it was a waste of time paying them off! If these debts have been listed for a few years maybe you can ride it out till after the 6 years is up and save yourself some money from having to take out a loan etc. Also, even if you make repayments etc, the 'defualt' info will still be there so you are still no better off, although if you are being 'hounded' to make payments maybe go to a Citizen Advice Bureau and they can help you offer suitable/managable repayments. I feel bad about saying for you just ignore the debt but as long as your debt is unsecured you don't really have anything to loose. Obviously you need to keep your current finances in order so that after the 6 years you have a clean record. if your debt is secured or you feel that morally you should pay up, go to a citizen advice bureau and ask them to help you with an 'income and expenditure' form which will be sent off to all your creditors listing your finances with a weekly/monthly offer of repayment to each of them. I used to work at a debt recovery office and we received offers of £1 per month! Good luck!

Go to a local credit counseling service, No one can 'clean" up your credit. The Internet companies are generally ripoffs.
