Not at all.
The average person in the United States has $10,000.00 in credit card debt alone. |

It depends on your income and your interest rate and the kind of debt you have (credit cards, tangible stuff, etc.) Generally speaking, $5000 isn't bad....it's managable for most incomes. By making $200 a month payments, you can pay it off in 2 years...if you can afford that. Call the people you owe money to and ask them to work with you. Many people will reduce the amount owed, remove interest and late fees, or help devise a workable payment plan. The bottom line is...they want their money and will work with you to get it. Good luck. |

Everything is relative. If it is about one month's salary then it isn't a lot. If you can afford to pay it off slowly it is manageable. If not, then yes, it is a lot. |

depends on your income, and how fast you can pay it off, and what the interest rate is. if its in credit cards and the interest rate is like 20% and you are paying the minimum its a lot.
if its what you owe on a real estate property and you have a low interest mortgage its probably not a lot.
check out some financial advice websites or tv shows to find out what percentage of your yearly income is an allowable debt level.
check out the Suze orman website for financial advice,
yeah I know she sells a lot of stuff, and you could catch her tv show on cable |

Not a lot at all. If you can make payments and still have enough for everyday living expenses you are doing fine. |

Not compared to mine. |

Yes it's a lot specially when you may not make enough to keep up the payments. Debtor's Annonymous can help you find a way to be debt free.
Specially unsecured debt as the interest rate is higher and you really have nothing to show from it. Basically credit cards are there to make the rich richer and the poor even more poor.
Get a second job pay off those debts and keep one for emergency purposes ... really you need to open up a savings account ... but just take it one step at a time! |

Unless you're a millionaire it is. That money you can't invest, that's money you can't buy food with, can't use it for emergencies, it's money you can't use for anything except helping the credit card company money. |

Opt for a debt consolidation loan: The easiest method of getting a debt consolidation loan is to utilize the equity of your home. Equity of your home is calculated and determined by the difference in the amount you have paid and the amount you owe. If the amount you have paid is more than the amount due, you can use it as collateral. This allows you to borrow money on lower interest rates. Besides, you also get tax benefit on this type of loan. Consult your tax advisor before opting for this loan.

I look at credit all day and no 5k is not alot. But as others say it is relative to you income and I would not suggest increasing your debt just because you feel, or are being told, 5k is not alot for the average person of today. No debt is the best debt. |
