I have another question.... what happens on your credit report when your car is stolen and...?
your insurance pays off the bank off... the bank sent me a letter saying congratulations, your loan is paid off and fulfilled, we will mail you the title, blah blah blah (in reality, the insurance gets the title). on my credit report, will it say paid and my score will go up, or will it say something else? basically, i am asking will i get the credit on my report for the loan being paid off?

Sure you will, as long as the account was paid in full it will show paid with a $0 balance.

This will help your score.

On your credit score it will just show up as the loan being paid off. Credit reports don't indicate whether or not the property was stolen or if you still possess it. So technically the score will probably go up some since one of your debts is being paid.

Duane
As long as the loan is paid, your creditors will care whether the car was stolen or not, just that it has been paid. This will help your score.

This is why there have been people who are having money problems "steal" their own belongings and try to get the insurance to pay it off. This is called insurance fraud and you will be charged with a crime if you do this.

Just a word of caution for those looking to discharge the debt this way! This happened to me during the time I was a Victim of ID theft and to this day, I'm not sure how much credibility I had with the cops even to this day!

I would put a fraud alert on my credit if I were you just to make sure this is where it ends. Read about what happened to me and protect yourself!!

You will find the phone numbers for all 3 credit reporting agencies you can use to place an initial fraud alert on your credit and it won't cost you anything to do this!

yes it will show up paid, the way it got paid doesn't matter.

ashshortie20
yes you will get credit for the paid off loan because the loan was in your name... No worries. Allow 30 days after payoff then Go to annualcredtireport.com for a free credit report from all three bureaus. you can only recieve one once a year but its a good way to stay on top of your credit.

teri
You should contact the credit bureau's yourself and let them know it is a 0 balance, paid in full. They will verify this through your lender and your credit rating gets a bit better =)

It will showed up as though you've paid off the loan. That will help your score to rise.

rockyfella25
nothing happens to your credit if your car got stolen..it will show paid with 0 balance

Yep - you'll get "credit" for the loan being paid off. It doesn't matter how a loan is paid off (insurance check, refinance, etc) once it's paid with a $0 balance - they are required to report it to the credit bureau.

Nothing will happen to your credit statement other than a note explaining the situation- because they will document every little thing that happens. But you're credit should be fine and start to grow again.

You get points for paying off the loan early.
