Kat | I have horrible credit and can't get a credit card? |
I would like to get a credit card for emergencies like gas, prescriptions etc. My credit is terrible from being stupid when i was younger. I can't fix my credit right now because i don't have the money but it would really help me to have a card for emergencies. I can't do one that costs like $200 to start, that just defeats the purpose.
Does anyone know of a place that does credit cards for people with bad credit? Additional Details just so everyone knows, i do not own a credit card right now and i never have. my debts are all medical, from my car and from things i did when i was 18-20. i have a bank account and a debit card but again, i can't afford to save money, i have to decide which bills to may each month to keep up. i really do need help. my husband is the only one who works because i have severe medical problems and can not work. |

Chances are, you won't get a credit card. You could probably get a secured credit card, but I'm guessing you don't want that because you have to pay them the money up front.
You can try, but all you are going to get is one with high fees to start (I know you said you don't want that, but with bad credit, you don't get a choice), and a high interest rate.
Try First Premier Bank, and Orchard Bank.
Also, are you sure you even need one? It seems to me that you are saying you want one "for emergencies"... but if you are so desperate for one, chances are everything will be an emergency, and you will just max it out. Then you may not be able to pay it back, and your credit will be even worse. |

Credit is going the Opposite direction ,
Reductions even for people with good credit .
You would be way better of getting a 2nd job and putting away the cash .
Until your FICO is over 700 , only loan sharks with baseball bats will deal with you .

Even if you were approved..you would be paying though the nose with interest. Open a checking account and use a debit card. |

Nope, credit beggars can't be credit choosers. You need to get a secured card. Just get one from capital one for like $100 deposit and after a few months of good use and on time repayment you'll get $300-500. |

Most of the bad credit, credit cards are going to have a ridiculous membership fee, interest rate and along with other things like you said give you a $300 credit limit and then leave you with $35 to use while you have to start making payments and then that $265 balance is drawing interest out of this world!
This is what I have done to get my credit in order. No I don't have credit card but it is a start.
First of all, I got a free credit report from all credit bureaus and start disputing old stuff and making arrangements, even though I could afford it. Atleast it got it off my credit report.
About six months later... my credit was clearer and my credit score had rose about 120 points. At this time it was almost 600. I went to a finance company and they gave me a loan. I paid it ontime... everything month. That bost my credit score. Then I went to a couple of more finance companies and they gave me a loan. That boost my credit score. I was able to purchase a vehicle, with high interest of course. . But I paid my car off and that boost my credit score....
You just have to get in the habit of keeping your word and paying your bills. Get serious about stuff being reported to the credit agencies.
Set up payment plans, what ever you got to do. Be realistic with creditors.
I hardly have any money too but, I don't live above my means. If I can't pay for it for cash, then I don't need it.
But, if you can get over the hump that the high interest credit cards + loaded down with fees that the bad credit, credit card companies offer then it can really restore your credit sooner. Having a good standing credit card is the best way to up your credit score! |

Any credit card that would approve you would be one that has horrible terms: like giving you a $300 limit with $250 in up front fees...meaning $50 in actual available credit....
Wish I had better news...sorry. |

Cards can be a convience when we use them correctly, aim for cards where the interest is _low_ most store cards charge a higher rate, but it you use them awhile, pay the full bill monthly, they many times will reduce the rate to keep you. It makes no difference to them what the rate is, if you never carry a balance. But, then if one month you happen to, the interest is lower, making it easier to pay it off the next.
BUT, even if you get a card with low interest, the _first_ time you miss a payment, they raise it. They even may raise it to the highest limit allowed by law... They sometimes offer low interest cards to college students, to trap them into using the card, so they can raise it.
To get a credit card, open a savings account, make AUTOMATIC deposits. Deposit .5 or 1% of your paycheck. After a few months you never miss it. Increase it to 2%, and gradually increase it. Only a small percentage of people have a savings account, those who do have a better credit record.
Once you have built a balance of $500, ask the bank for a "secured" card based upon your savings. You will get one for $300 or $500 depending on your record, keep making the savings deposits.
Once you have the card, discipline yourself not to use them, _except_ for an amount you can pay off completely... DO that, then apply for a gas card, they are easier to get and with a savings and one other card, even easier. Apply for a card like Shell, that gives you a discount on gas. Then always pay the balance. We travel in a Motor Home, and each time we fill up, it is $200-290.
We check online to see when it appears on the bill, and pay it before it is due. It builds our credit _and_ we get money back on this account when we charge things. So there is not only _no_ interest, but a discount on the gas and other things we purchase. We also use store cards in stores like Fred Meyer, where we get 10 cents a gallon off the price.
Cards can be a convenience when we use them correctly, aim for cards where the interest is _low_ most store cards charge a higher rate. But if you use them awhile, pay the bill monthly, they many times will reduce the rate to keep youm when you request. It makes no difference to them what the rate is, if you never carry a balance.
But, then if one month you cant pay the full balance, the interest is lower, making it easier to pay it off the next month.
Stores probably have "sales" to get people to buy, but the majority buy on credit, with high interest rates. So the store makes more in the long run than they would have selling it at full retail.
Credit does not work like, the more you can charge, the better your rating. It is just the opposite. The bigger your income, and the lower your credit use or balance, the better your rating. Second jobs do not count, for you could quit them at any time.
It shows you have self discipline, when you always pay your bills on time, your rating goes up.... Your payment record is the most important. Never pay it late, pay it as soon as the bill comes.
Pay interest only on major purchases like a house. |

Write Treasury Secretary Paulson, explaining your situation.
He will then head to congress demanding that they act by purchasing your debt, thereby freeing you from your credit crunch, and allowing you to continue making the bad purchasing decisions that is the sole engine of our current economy.
There is no time to think about this. It must be done right now, or the whole world will end.
....
To actually answer your question, you don't need another credit card, you need to get control of your finances. Start by building up an emergence fund of cash instead of depending on an emergence source of credit. Then work on paying off your debts... Unless you want to be broke and be a slave to credit card companies, banks, and other lenders for the rest of your life. Check out Dave Ramsey or Crown Financial on the web for more help. |
