You are going to get a bunch of uneducated answers about how your credit will merge once you get married. They don't know what they are talking about.

I know from first hand experience....

When I got married, my wife came with a lot of debt "baggage". She had just moved up from Florida. After we married, the collection agents found her and started calling our home. She was scared to death and a nervous wreck!

When she told me, I just laughed. I know the laws, I know how credit works, and I know they couldn't touch her!

She lived off my credit for a few years. Then I added her to my cards, got a card in her name, and then bought a car in her name.

She now has better credit then I do! And all the collection agents could do is sit and watch!

The only way they can collect from you after marriage is if you have a job, and they can garnish your wages. Get a separate joint bank account for now, and keep your fiance's open.

Things will work out for you.

I have been in the finance industry for 5 years. I have managed large companies with several employees. The answer is no unless you do anything joint, and that will only reflect regarding that account alone. No credit line you are not signed on together will affect each other.

NOOOO, it wil not change. YOu each have your own seperate credit file and it stays that way. Only joint purchases or joint accounts will be shown on both.

A great "trick' to help your credit, is that he should add you as an authorized user on everyone of his credit cards that has a good 'track record'. His account and ALL his payments will be reported to your report, most of the time. (Not all of them do this, but my discover does.)

he can add you and get a card in your name and just slice it up, so its no risk to him.

Only new accounts that were opened by both of you will affect both of you. So, no. You can buy stuff with his credit until you improve yours. Order a copy of your credit report and disput all accuracies that do not look right to you. This is huge. Then get a secured card, and/or add your name as an authorized user to his cards. Most importantly, keep you balances low on open cards!

Your credit will not effect each other unless you share your finances. For example, if you apply for a mortgage, put it in only his name and you will get a bette rate because your credit will not lower your combined score. Same goes for Cars, credit cards, ect. As time passes you will begin to turn your credit around by having extra help from somone with good credit.

Your individual credit scores will not change. However, you will not be able to be on loans with him, but he will be able to co-sign for you.

Have him add you to all his credit cards as an authorized user and you'll inherit his excellent credit (although your negative credit will still remain).

You can actually do this with your parents credit also. Have them add you and you'll inherit their credit.

when you get married, make sure he is the primary applicant for anything you buy on credit, then it will be his credit rating that determines the loan.

jb
Yes. Buy everything you need before you get married!!

crude_oil
And he still wants to marry you?
