I have just received a demand from a debt agency?
I have just received a demand from a debt collection agency saying I owe Lloyds bank over £2,000.I have not banked with Lloyds for nearley ten years where do I stand and what should I do

whataboutthisforaloginname
First of all, relax...
If I knocked on your door and demanded £2000, would you panic, pay up without question, or tell me to take a running jump?
Exactly... so why treat this letter any different. If they say you owe them money, ask for proof.

Having said that, even if you did owe the money, because more than six years have passed, they couldn't claim it from you anyway. If I were you I would ignore it, as contacting them would be recognition of the letter, and they will never leave you alone if you do that. Most debt collecting agencies don't take no for an answer, regardless of whether they have the right person or not...

If they persist with more letters, either demand proof or send them a letter stating that more than six years have passed and therefore you are not liable. Only contact them in writing as they will hound you if you give them your phone number.

If you are that worried about it, seek advice from the Citizens Advice Bureau, but ultimately they can't legally claim the money from you so as stated above, relax...

You probably left a debt behind and interest charges have mounted up. they find you eventually and won't let it drop.

Ring them up and explain.

Banks make mistakes all the time, they should be very apologetic =]

Do not ignore this it wont just go away you need to contact Lloyd's and ask where this dept is from. If it isn't a result of your actions it is likely that someone has stolen your identity and have run up dept in your name. YOU NEED TO RING LLOYD'S AND SORT THIS OUT NOW!!!!!! (if someone has stolen your identity they could have been doing transactions recently and therefore the dept will not be over 6yrs etc as people are just assuming)

Here is the phone number 0845 3 000 000

bearcat
better contact them...someone could have stole your identity and be posing as you.....

ignore it, if you have had no contact or responded to any contact from either the bank or a debt agency before this letter then the statute of limitation has run out and they cant claim it

strawberry
ask for written details on the debit and take it from theremy understanding is all debt got wiped after 7 years!

Never ignore these letters even if they are a mistake or else you will have them knocking at your door and they will persist until they gain access. Go to citizens advice bureau first thing and make an appointment to see an advisor. They are good and will sort it out for you.If you ignore it they will not listen to you when you say it is just a mistake and you will have a nightmare on your hands. Trust me.

What is the Limitation Act?
The Limitation Act 1980 sets out the rules on how long a creditor has to take action against you for a debt i.e. take you to court. The time limits are different, depending on the type of debt that you have. This factsheet outlines when you can use the Limitation Act and includes a standard letter you can adapt to send if your debt fits into the rules.

Read this it may be relevant as you have not heard from them in 6 years, and dont offer to settle.

I WENT THROUGH SOMETHING LIKE THIS, and your case just sounds too suspicious to me.

First rule--Do NOT call ANY phone number cited in the "Lloyd's Bank" letter or email your received because that's a SURE SIGN that this is a scam. No legitimate bank EVER puts its phone number in its letterhead because it's easy for scammers to list their own phone numbers. Also, NO BANK EVER sends emails asking for personal information!

MY STORY:

In our case, we moved from California to Pennsylvania in 2002. The state of CA spent YEARS writing us letters and calling us, claiming that we owed them $3000.00 of personal income tax which we didn't owe them. My husband and I kept explaining to them that we were NOT CA residents from April to December of 2002, and our accountant sent CA our records which proved we were paying income tax to the state of PA from April 2002 on (and you can't be double=taxed)--but still the calls and letters continued.

In our case the collection agency person worked to our advantage. He got the facts straight and the accusations from CA ceased in 2007, a whole 5 years later [which goes to show you, 'incompetence' is what makes the world go 'round for state tax workers].

But in YOUR case? If you didn't receive anything formally in writing? Suspicious.
First, HOW did you receive this demand?
1. Via email ? if so,DO NOT RESPOND-if it was via email, it's for sure a scam, Banks don't send emails about your account. It's scammers, pfishing for your personal info.
2, Via phone, accompanied by numerous letters? Like us. Then the collection agency (IF it is legitimate) can straighten it out for you. But DO NOT give the alleged collection agencey any personal info. such as your social security number (if you have those in England). Ie., DON'T give out ANY sensitive personal information.
In my case, I ultimately gave the caller the last 4 digits of my 9-digit SS number so he could tell me what my husband was 'accused of' {although they came after me independently of my husband, threatening to put liens against our Sacramento County property--interesting, since we'd never even set foot in Sacramento County let alone owned property there).

But UNDERSTAND that this was only after we had received numerous letters on official letterhead from the state of CA, and numerous phone calls from CA.

2. What ITEMS do they claim you purchased.? You didn't say. Look online or in your phone book, get Lloyd's phone no. that way, and call them. You sound innocent., and if so, Lloyd's will WANT to know about some scammer out there trying to tweek personal info. out of you. They should, in fact, have tape-recorded while-you-wait messages cautioning you against such things, unless--NO! DON't tell me that in England you get a Real Person Right Away!....it's been years for me in the US, no such thing as a Real Person Right AwaY!

It ALL just sounds too suspicious in your case ASK YOUR FRIENDS and RELATIVES ABOUT IT. I think it's a scam.

And note, too, that in our case it STILL took 5 years for the state of CA to send a collection agency after us! DON'T PAY ANYONE ANYTHING until you get specific details. And DO NOT give out personal info.

Les
ignore it! Lloyds have obviously sold their old debts to this company as they cant be bothered chasing it any more so they give the debt agency a last chance and offer them money if they get it from you, on the demand read the words like "you MAY get taken to court" etc!

I am St☮ned ;)
ignore it , return to sender, not known at this address.
