You may be better off getting a credit card and purchasing a computer. But you could try to obtain a Best Buy card or go to Dell and see if you can get financed that way.

Show me how much you really want it by buying this computer with cash that you have put away.

Computers are depreciating "assets". They aren't appreciating assets. You shouldn't finance a depreciating asset just like you shouldn't finance a car. You should save up for the computer and pay cash. Dell has brand new laptops for $699. Save up for it and you won't have to pay more for it than it is worth or than what the original cost was.

A good place to look would be your paycheck. I mean, do it the old-fashioned way, by saving up for it. You can have an amount deducted from every paycheck and direct deposited into a savings account. If you don't see it, you never miss it. Skip the sodas and the Starbucks or other pricey habits you have, and focus on the goal.

AVOID BLUE HIPPO!! THEY ARE A HUGE RIPOFF. You get a reconditioned machine, not a new one, and the payments never end...you end up paying 10x what a new computer would have cost.

Try Blue Hippo. They don't check your credit score, but sadly it seems like you'll pay an arm and a leg for it.

Or you could save up some cash and get a cheaper model at Wal-Mart.

local computer repair shop, or second hand store. the local free paper

find a friend to help, one who knows systems. do not buy one from family, friends, or neighbors. that's not to say they be bad, just history says it is not a good idea.

stay away from esoteric brands like dell and gateway.

best bet is Compaq / HP

My money is on HP

I tried Dell and got it, just be aware of the finance charge.

Josh
Well, you can always save your money, or you could apply for a student credit card if your a student, but they have limited spending. Or you could just get a basic credit card if you have little or no credit at all and use it every now and then like charge $50 dollars or so and pay off the balance BEFORE it is due and in full. Also, make sure you do not miss any payments, 1 late payment can hurt you.

ANIMAL
Try BillMeLater.com. They have a lot of retailers who will sell you items before you pay them. I purchased several laptops through them and didn't have to pay them until much later on.

steal the one you posted this question from!

j/k of course - check your local thrift stores if you are only looking for a pc to get online with or perform basic functions you can find a slightly outdated one that will work just fine.
