Well, first I'd like to tell you not to panic. There's a lot of people in this world, that are going through the same thing you're going through. I have some tips for you.

The easiest way would be to check where you do your banking to see if your bank offers secured credit cards. The easiest way to describe these is buidling credit with a savings account, because they either use an existing savings account or a deposit is placed in an account that's used as collateral to get you a credit line that's normally the same as either the deposit, or what's in the savings account. The security deposit isn't used to pay the balance on the card while it's open. Only when the card's been closed due to delinquency would it be used to bay the balance. Depending on the credit card company, it can usually take anywhere between 9-18 months of paying on time and keeping the balance small by making small purchases in order for the card to switch to a regular one or a better card's offered altogether. Bank of America and Citi offer 2 of the best secured cards to date.

Another option would be to apply with Orchard Bank. They offer cards to people that are building and rebuilding their credit. You might be able to get a low limit card with them, or they'll offerer you a secured card at least.

You may want to try to do a "secured loan" by using your savings account as collateral to get a loan. This is similar to a credit card, the only thing is that you pay the same certain amount every month for a set period of time. A suggestion would be to take the proceeds of the loan and then place it in a certificate of deposit (CD) and make the term of the CD slightly shorter than the loan so that the CD would mature before the loan's over. This way, you would be able to gain interest in 2 places and build credit at the same time.

Also, another option would be to sign up with PRBC, a new national credit bureau that reports accounts like rent, insurance, cell phone, landline phone, utilities, among the ones that do not report with the regular credit bureaus unless you're past due. There's a lot of information that I can't possibly cover on the website, so my suggestion would be to check out the website thouroughly. I posted the links to the PRBC website, along with Orchard Bank, and the Secured credit cards:

I hope that this helps you out,

Good Luck!

Opening a checking and a savings account with a bank is your best way. Usually over time (could take a year) your bank will offer you a credit card through them. If you have an account go to your bank and speak to someone, even if it is a secured credit card where you are given only a $300 limit. Do not keep applying to credit cards, it'll only waste your time. If you do get a credit card through your bank, constant application for other cards will actually hurt your credit score. You'll have to wait it out. If you are going to college, normally you'll get offers in the mail within 6-12 months. Some times colleges/universities have credit card booths set-up for secured student credit cards. Just know that if you apply and get a card through an offer like this, you will most likely have a high APR.

If it is at all possible, see if a responsible parent (who makes payments on time and who does not have a maxed out credit card-little or no balance) can get you a duplicate card in your name to one of his/her credit cards. This will show on your credit history even without your consent, activation, or use of the card. However, if your parent fails to make payments or screws up that will hurt your score. You will not be taken off of the credit card until the account is closed. See if a parent can get a secured card with a small limit for your benefit and add your name to it. Make sure to use it sparingly (if at all) and give your parent(s) the payment each month or pay it yourself.

Get a secured credit card with a reputable bank by placing some money in a savings account which will be restricted to guarantee the credit card.

After a year or so, with you paying as agreed, they will switch you to an unsecured card.

This may be the only way in which you can get started without guarantors (like parents).

Department stores and major credit companies usually have minimal screening for beginners (they won't turn you down simply because you don't have a big credit history). Try getting a Visa or Mastercard through Target or Kohl's. This will get you started. If you r are unsuccessful you may want to consider getting a copy of your credit report to make sure it is accurate. It may contain errors, or perhaps you are unaware of something negative in your financial history that is affecting your credit (defaulted loan, late paying bills...) Good luck!!

Get a dept. store card. Also go to your bank and get a secured credit card.

They list all sorts of credit cards for people in your situation. Student cards that do not require a co signer.....cards for people with bad credit. Worst case you can get a prepaid card that will at least establish some credit history. If you can not get approved for one of these cards have your parents co sign for one. Make a few small purchases and pay it off in FULL every month. look through the site and read each card to determine which would work best for you. Good luck

If you have bad or no credit and have no credit cards try to obtain two credit cards and make sure all of your monthly payments are made on time. This will help increase your credit score. If you cannot be approved for a unsecured credit card, obtain a secured credit card.

have your parents assign you one from their credit account. then maybe once you have that, you can apply for anew one and show that you have a card and than possibly they'll give you your own. but be very sensitive to your parents if you do this. if you make a bad move on their account, it messes up their credit.
