Get anyone to give you a start even if you have to have a secured card. Pay the bill on time and in full every single month. Then apply for a unsecured card, car loan, furniture loan or whatever else you can afford and would have paid cash for. Like with a car loan if you have $5,000 to buy a car find a $5,000 car and tell the dealer you can only afford $4,000 down and finance the other $1,000 then pay a small monthly payment for 4-5 months then pay it off. This way you will have installment debt and revolving debt all paid as agreed and not costing much in interest.
It takes many years to build credit history so don't give up. Pay all debt in full each month and never carry to the next month and you don't risk any 30 day lates even if you break a leg and can't work.

The first post is correct. Building up a good score takes quite a bit of time. You could try to get a co-signer for a small loan from a bank & pay it off as soon as possable. Or you can get a credit card & USE IT WISELY! If you carry a balance it will not help build up a credit score. There is also a site that you can register on. You have to pay a fee but they will add your power/water/phone/rent to your credit score in order to get it built up. I think the site is http://prbc.com/ (I took a bankrupcy corse on line for a friend & the course suggested useing this site so it is legit but can be expensive also)

Try to go to Orchard bank and get a credit card or a auto loan and make payments on time..

By a careful looking and serching t you should be able to come away with a good instant approval credit card. Sometimes, if there are any questions about your credit score, though, you may be required to answer more questions by phone, or mail, in order to get it settled. After that, your new credit card should come in just a few days.

Get a secured credit card from a bank (You put down a payment of $500 or whatever, and they hold on to it, and give you a credit card with a $500 limit. Pay it in full every month.

After 6 months, apply for a car loan and a few credit cards. Before you apply, make sure your credit report shows your credit card balance as zero (perhaps don't even use your credit card for the month preceding it). Remember that "household income" = the income of everyone in your household. And make sure you get that car loan, even if you have to apply for several (they only count as one inquiry within 14 days, I think).

After 10 months, call up your credit card companies and ask if they will increase your credit limit WITHOUT A HARD CREDIT INQUIRY. You don't want any extra inquires on your report than you already have.

If all goes to plan, after a year you should have a decent credit score.

To raise credit score

1. Always pay on time or ahead of time.
2. maintain low balances on credit cards
3.To boost your score: Don't charge anything for at least 60 days before applying for a loan
4. keep your total potential debt to earnings load low - If you have a card with a $15000 credit line, you may ask them to reduce it to something more realistic, like $5000.
5. You should have a recent history of both installment or term (Car or house loans) and revolving credit.
6.To boost your score: Don't close unused accounts when you transfer debt.
7.To boost your score: Consider opening another credit-card account or two, or taking out a car loan or small bank loan.

One way to start establishing credit is to open a secure credit card. This is a card that is secured by a savings account. You may try your local bank they can guide you.

Store credit cards are also pretty easy to get.

You just need to be careful with credit. Make sure you look at the interest rates, and any other fine print.

Also with credit you do not want to max out your credit lines, for example if you have a $1000 credit card, don't charge $900 and keep it at that balance. Maxing out a credit card can bring down your credit score.

A car loan is another way to establish credit - once again make sure you check out the rates.

Thanks

There is no way to have great credit fast. It takes awhile. Open up a bank account if you haven't alreay and make sure you never overdraft etc. Apply for a small credit card through your bank and use it every month on little things so it's easy to always make your payments on time every month. That's the best and most basic way in my opinion.
