1. Watch out for spam answers to a question like this.
2. If you have a steady job, you can probably get a credit card. Check with your bank. Make it for a low limit at first so you don't go overboard and make sure to pay it in full on time. You'll probably have a terrible interest rate and late payments will make it worse (and hurt any future credit).
3. If you don't have a job, you might consider a prepaid credit card. You put money into an account and then draw on it. You're loaning your own money to yourself. It's like a debit card but doesn't require a checking account.
4. Another option would be to have a joint credit card with a parent. |

Yes, you can get a credit card. I'm 21 and recently got my first one at Old Navy. You will be able to get one with no credit, but will have limited credit, as you said. You may have a $2000 credit limit or something, but you can still very easily build credit with it!
What you should do is USE the card once you get it. Start off not spending too much- maybe 50$ each cycle or something. The trick to building credit is NOT to spend any money you don't have. Anything you would normally spend, feel free to put on the card.
The important thing is to pay off the card each cycle. You may choose to leave a very small balance as this can help to build credit, but for the most part, spend only what you have and completely pay your bill off every cycle. This way you won't pay any interest, and you will show that you are reliable and can handle a credit card. |

I had no credit established either..this is what i did...
I applied for credit cards EVERYWHERE..just go on the internet and apply for like 3 or 4.
The only one that accepted me was HOME DEPOT mastercard..and the cool thing is that when i spend money i get points....so it has been a year since i got the card...i pay for everything on it (to build credit) but i make sure i pay it off every month...
Since i have points on there i just used them and got $200 worth of gift cards..and there is so mcuh to choose from..and im building my credit. BUT MAKE SURE YOU PAY IT OFF EVERY MONTH..that is the only way your gonna build credit...good luck!
PS credit cards are only trouble if you abuse them...just like nething else...i have a credit card and im very responsible with it..you have to know your spending limits..for example..don't go out and spend alot if you dont' have the money to pay off the card at the end of the month..if you spend over what you can pay then thats when you get yourself into trouble with interest and late fees. |

Some banks offer what are referred to as pre paid credit cards you put a certain amount of money on the card and the bank will report to the credit reporting companies that you have these also keeping a savings account and a checking acct in good standing also add to credit worthiness. Also do not be in a big hurry as being 18 you are probably more apt to make impulse buys i.e. something that you cannot afford, but must have this is a sure way to get into a hole that is very difficult to get out off. A good rule to follow is never use credit for anything but emergencies and follow the 33 rule that we use for every dollar we earn we save at least 33 cents sand you will well be on your way to being a thrifty person and believe me money woes are no fun Good luck. |

starting with a department store credit card is generally a good bet - they're relatively easy to get, and if you buy something with it and then pay it off, *bang* - you've got good credit.
just be aware when paying off that purchase that you don't want to pay it off all at once - that isn't as valuable in the credit bureaus' estimation as making regular, timely installments. so buy something for, say, $100.00, then when the credit card bill comes with a minimum payment of $15.00, pay $20.00 before it's due, and keep that up until the purchase is paid off and you're on your way.
just one thing: BE AWARE OF WHAT YOU'RE GETTING INTO by even wanting credit. it can be very useful, but using it too much causes your purchases to cost you way more in the long run than they would have if you'd bought them outright, plus, should you ever find yourself unable to keep up with your payments, you can be kinda badly screwed.
watch out for credit cards that offer rewards, too - they tend to charge higher interest rates than cards that don't tout big fancy reward programs. |

Oh no you don't want a credit card. Those things are trouble. The only way to use a credit card and not eventually get in trouble with it is to never charge more than you can pay off by the time you get the bill. If you can't do that, stay away from credit cards. Find a co-signer and get a small car loan. Pay that off quickly and that will start you down the road of good credit. Don't rush it. |

You don't, in this financial climate. Banks are incredibly cagey about giving credit now. Try to get a low limit card from a secure card. If you use it responsibly, you build up a good rating. |

One way is to have someone cosign for you. That will help build up your credit. |

You can either get someone like a parent to co-sign for you, or you can get a pre-paid credit card. You give them a certain amount ($200, $500, $1000) and that's what you "borrow" off of. The credit card company isn't losing anything because it's not their money, but they get to see if you're responsible enough to handle a "real" credit card.
Edit: Don't listen to Steeler Chick and apply EVERYWHERE. Everytime you apply for a credit card, store card, anything, they check your credit report. And everytime your credit report gets checked, it brings your score down, thus making it HARDER to get credit. That's a big mistake people make. Credit card companies look at your credit report and if they see that 10 other companies have also checked it, they won't even talk to you. |

There are credits cards for people with no credit and bad credit. If you google bad credit cards you'll come back with like the Aspire card, First Primier, etc. They send you an unsecured card with the annual fee billed to it. Your limit will be low about $200-1000 dollars. the annual fee will be like $150. You can start charging the card as soon as you get it. First premier also the premier credit manager its $4.99 a month you can pull you credit report as many times a month as you would like for free without any point being charged. They also have credit monitoring. |

You can still get a credit card. My husband got his first credit card when he was 18. He got a capital one card. I think that his first limit was $400. |

yes u can get a credit card.if you use your credit card just make sure you pay on time, this helps your credit score.also the longer you hold to that credit card even if u don't use it helps you credit score.co-sing does not build credit that only helps the person who is cosigning. |

First let me put my two cents in: Don't get a credit card! You can't build "quick" credit. Creditors look at how you have paid over a long period of time. Credit cards don't help your credit anyway because they are "revolving" credit. Get a small personal loan from a finance co. ($500) and pay it back for at least 3 months. Usually finance companies report to the credit bureau every 90 days. |

Wait until you are 18.5 and you can get a $500 credit limit card with some ridiculous 23% interest rate.
It's a horrible decision, don't get one when you want to buy things. Don't even get one to 'build credit.'
That is how most of my friends are in credit debt at age 23-27... and they hold professional jobs @ $50-80,000/year Ridiculous!!!! |

you are young don't worry about your credit. getting a credit card would probably mess you up. what you need is a good job, open a bank account, keep your account clean for at least 6months to a year , then ask your bank if they have any special promotion for you with a low interest rate, no APR at a limit that you can handle so you can keep your credit perfect.! dont rush into any creditor who wants to give you credit now , take your time, you ll receive applications in no time. |
