Go to your bank and ask about a secured credit card. This is where you put up a small amount of money, i.e. $500, then the bank will give you a credit card for that amount. Keep up with the payments and this will help you to establish a good credit history. Also, make pay arrangements with the phone company, or if they've already sent it to a collector; offer to settle the account. Usually they will take less than the original amount owed, but at least it will show paid off on your credit report. |

Apply for department charge cards. Once you get one, make a small charge every month and pay it off immediately. Or get a secured credit card, the kind where you have to place $500.00 down and that is your limit. Make charges every month and pay them off. Or ask the electric company if they report to the credit bureau. |

Get a bank, etc. to give you a credit card that you put cash on up front and then use it. That will give you some kind of record.
Obtain dept. store credit cards. When you want to buy something, charge it and then pay it off immediately. After doing this for awhile, you will establish good credit.
This is all assuming that you also take care of your 500 debt. with bellsouth. |

Try apply at department stores. Get the card and charge something on it and pay as request by store. JC Pennys is easy. Also have someone with good credit co-sign a small loan with you. Make sure it is someone you can trust and they can trust you. Be honest and very trustworthy. |

Susan has very excellent advice-as always.
Bank or credit union should be your choices, talk to a manager. Tell them the situation. But remember that the longer you have a debt like that phone bill, the worse it looks on a credit report. You can also get free credit reports from all the reporting agencies on line. Check everything and maybe take them with you when you go to apply. Good luck. |
