Thank you for your time and advice. Additional Details (I have bad credit) but thanks for the underwriting recommendation in the future. ;-) |

Charge $100, pay it off over two months, repeat - you'll be paying some intereted, but they'll like the fact that they're making money off of you. Creditors don't value customers that pay off their bill every month ("no profit" customers!)
If you've never had credit before, continue doing the above and very soon you'll have offers piling up in your mailbox.
And there's NO REASON not to call right away and ask for a lower interest rate - tell them "I've seen some rates that are very competitive to the rate I have with you, is it possible that you could lower my interest rate." A study (no source!) years ago showed that this worked FAR more than one would expect.
But wait 6 months to ask them to extend the line of credit (if they don't do it without you asking) - when they do that, they do a credit inquiry. |

Well, if you can only get a small credit line, then that is the only way to build up your credit. If your credit is good, then you might try a credit union. Their rates aren't as bad. My credit union only charges 9% on my visa card. |

Yes, yes, and yes. You can call them in about 6 months and request that they raise your credit limit or lower your interest rate. |

Yes. Just use the card once a month, maybe to buy a burger or pack of gum, and then make sure to pay it off every month on time.
After 6 months or so, you can request a higher limit. However that really isn't important. What's important is the regular on-time payment history, and keeping your credit used vs. total credit line ratio under 30%. Those are the two biggest factors in raising your credit score over time. |

yes, they will eventually, but I wouldn't take it.
I would transfer it to a different card with a lower rate after you have paid on time this will help.
Don't get a card where there is an annual fee either. |

Well done, I am glad to see that you have sense not using that card. It's to easy to run up bills and the only good bill is a paid one. You are quite right, you can ask for an increase in credit allowance later, just use it gently and pay off before interest is put on. 26% it make sme wince.
I order things and then pay them off in a few days, like just booked holiday, £2750 and paid it off 2 days later no interest. The raising of credit limit by bank is to bring to your mind the credit card hoping that you will use it. Good luck to you. |

You don't need a credit score for a home loan. Find a bank that does "manual underwriting". It's the way home loans were givin' before all the fico score worship (and foreclosures). You can get the lowest interest rates out there.
The only thing that obsessing with your fico score will get you is debt. |

Rather than using their credit card with such a high interest rate, I'd take my good credit history to a credit union or bank with a lower interest card and get one of theirs.
That's being a smart consumer.
Good luck. |

Yes, they will. I don't know if you can request it...mine just gave me credit increases after being good for awhile. You do have to use it though...like, it won't help if it just always sits at home.
Also, a credit card will build your credit, but not by much. I'm not sure what DOES (I'm in the process of figuring that out myself), but I've got a credit card and it's not making much of an impact on mine. |
