Contact the account holder. IN most cases the only way is to pay it off and re-open in the name of the account user alone. |

Normally, the only way a creditor will remove a person responsible for the account is if it is paid in full and closed. Then your ex would have to open one on their own. |

If you are the primary signer, call and cancel the card. If you are the secondary signer, call and talk to them about removing your name.
Did the responsibility for the credit card go to your wife in the divorce decree? If so, mail/fax them a copy. If not? You will most likely not be able to remove your name from the account.
If all else fails, pay off the account and close it. |

I used to work for a bank and they NEVER just let you take a person that was still alive off the account (don't go killing your ex now... J/K)... The bank I worked for you had to close the opened account the reopen a new one... GOOD LUCK |

It seems to me that if you have a copy of the divorce decree, they should be able to take your name off of the account. I bought a car with my ex boyfriend once, and the salesman "married" us on paper. When he ran off with the car, I explained to Ford Motor Credit that we were never legally married. They absolved me of any and all responsibility. |

Having gone through a divorce it is more time consuming than anything. You will need to contact each of the companies you have an account with and simply cancel the account. If they want an explanation, and I believe they will not, just explain the divorce. |

Call your lawyer, or better, write to your lawyer, eplain the problem, expain what you want, andask him to take care of it. |
