you can take care of those blemishes by calling the comapny that reported it and work out a payment plan with them. Also, most things can get cleared after they are 5 years old. |

You need to contact each of the three credit reporting bureaus and specifically request investigations on any item you dispute. They will check them out to see if they're legit. If they're not, they will clean up the items off your report.
If they are legit, the only "cure" is time. Negative info stays on for a full 7 years. |

well, anything negative on your equifax, experian or transunion report can only remain for 7 years-so if it's a legitimate item, once 7 years passes, it has to be removed by law--if you have past due balances, unpaid credit cards, charge-offs, etc., if u have a little money to work with, u can try negotiating with the creditors, offering some kind of settlement ONLY if they agree (IN WRITING) to remove the item from your report (not just mark it as paid-but REMOVE it)---also, if some of the items are older, but not 7 years old, just request a validation of these items (get your credit reports online, and check off a 'dispute' for any items in question, and the credit agencies are then required by law to request verification of the outstanding debt from whoever is saying u owe it, such as Mastercard, a credit union, a store or utility company, etc.-if the creditor who is saying u owe money cannot produce sufficient verification of the fact that u owe that debt, then POOF-the item is erased-i think they have 30 days to produce the proof (either 30 or 60, not sure)---- |

Dispute them with the credit bureaus...if that doesn't work send a letter to the creditor demanding validation of the debt.
Alot of times they will not respond and be forced to remove it from the credit report. |

If you have already paid the bills, you can write the collection agencies and ask them to delete them but chances are they will not. If you have not paid them then you will have to wait for several years (it varies from state to state) before they fall off.
Also, if you have not paid them, I recommend writing the collection agencies and asking for bill copies. Do this within 30 days of them writing to you. They must provide the copies and if they cannot do so, then they have to delete it from your credit report.
The other option is to find a way to dispute it with the Attorney General of the state you live in or that governs the agency (that varies from state to state too). Most often, if you do this, and throw a big fuss, the collection agency will delete it from your credit so you do not cause them more problems than they need.
Each state has different collection laws and there should be a web site that gives your state laws. All Collection agencies also must follow the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) and the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA).
Also make sure any letters you send the collection agency or reporting agencies are certified otherwise they often "misplace them". |

First off, don't go to any company that promises to remove bad credit items for your report. They are a scam. Anything legitimate on your report cannot be removed. And if you have negative items on your report that are there by mistake (yes, it does sometimes happen), you can remove them yourself, you don't need to pay some company to do it.
You can basically challenge any negative marks on your credit by writing to the credit agency that owns your report (Experian, Trans Union, and/or Equifax). Basically, they'll contact the creditor and make them prove the negative item. Of course, if the negative item is legitimate, they'll provide the proof and the item will remain on your report. However, if the creditor doesn't respond or doesn't provide the proof, the credit agency will remove it from your report. So it doesn't really hurt anything to at least challenge a negative item, even if it's legitimate.
Otherwise, for legit negative items, only time will improve your score. Just start paying your bills on time from here on out. The farther in the past the negative items are, the more your score will improve. Then once you reach seven years (or 10 for a bankruptcy), the item will automatically be removed from your report. |
