the government wants everyone to have a bank account so they can pay benefits direct, rather than through a book, so you HAVE to be able to get a basic account now.
post office or any building society. Nationwide do one that is a cash card only account, but that you can do standing orders, direct debits and online banking from. what more do you want from a bank account. |

The only reason you shouldn't be able to get a basic bank account is that you owe them money. Pay off your debt. Stop spending too much money and get your life together. |

You should be able to get a checking or savings with any kind of credit...you can open an acct w/ about 200.00
(balance your checkbook though because overdrafting checks is expensive & can get you in teouble.

If you are simply looking for a way of receiving funds then a savings account will be fine.
The banks will have no problem in taking your money off you!
Your new employer will be able to pay you direct into this account, you can then withdraw using an ATM card |

Try Nat west step account it a very basic account but you can set up direct debits and it also has a debit card. I believe they dont do credit checks and you can apply online. |

most banks have information from other banks that they use to determine if they want to give you an account. try a credit union they tend to have more relaxed rules. |

you should be able to get a basic account with any bank no matter what sort of credit problems you have. If you have declared yourself bankrupt you wont get one tho. A basic account only comes with a card to withdraw money from an atm not a debit card. Hsbc or barclays should be the best places to try. There is no charge for a basic account. |

I have a couple of suggestions. For a regular bank account, you may want to try to open an account online with Bank of America. I've referred at least 2 of my friends that have had credit problems and they were able to open an account.
If that doesn't happen to work, then another thing you can try is AccountNow. They're the perfect checking account alternative. Here's a link that explains more in detail:
