I had to request a full credit report it's free once every year. I disputed everything that I was not responsible for including 2 homes and 2 cars purchased in my name that I was not responsible for. I had to file a police report and each individual company that had a claim in my name...It took almost six months to clear up everything and I had to write a certified letter disputing the credit and loans granted in my name that weren't done by me. Unfortunately, I learned you can't expect Experian, Equafax, or Transunion to do it for you, I had to do the footwork call the lenders and credit card companies, as well as send formal certified letters consistantly and made copies of the police report{s} filed regarding fraudulent activity against my name and soc sec and enclosed the copies in my letters..... |

Call the actual companies you owe money to, not the collection agency.
The name of the company will be on your bill (if not, the people at the collection agency HAVE to tell you by law). You can research for their number on the internet. |

You had to have an SSN or your parents could not have declared you as an exemption on their income taxes. |

YOU have to call the companies that fraudulently reported you. They are not going to call you. Do it soon, it could get worse if you don't fix it. |

SSN's are issued at birth. You need to get a copy of your credit report. Contact your local credit bureau. Do not work with the collection agencies. They will tell you anything. Work with someone at the credit bureau. If this is a case of someone using your SS #, you need to ask the credit bureau who you should contact. |

A hassle yes but you need to get the brakes on this NOW. Report it to Police anyway.
Contact Experian or equivalent get that report and check it over with fine tooth comb. Highlight anything you disagree with. You are then given opportunity to provide a letter with explanation which will be seen by any potential creditor. I think you have max 2000 words so keep to the point, no ranting otherwise it wont be shown.
Write directly to the Companies but copy the same letter to the Collection Agencies. They will see you are not just ignoring this you are trying to sort it out. You must have birth certificate to prove your age at the time these loans etc were taken out. Don't send copies. You may need to go to a Notary Public office and get a statement certifying he has actually seen this evidence. There will be a nominal fee for this but you can ask at time of making the call. Solicitor offices will be able to point you in right direction.
Sadly this will not just go away. I realise this is not yr doing but it will be yhour undoing if you dont act now. :) |

There is good news, contrary to what most people believe, all three credit reporting agencies are privately owned, not tied to the government in any way, as a matter of a fact, the Federal Trade Commission, has put in effect a law to protect the consumer from those three agencies, that law is called Fair Credit Reporting Act, remember, knowledge is power, if you know that law, you can have a lot of your negative entries deleted from your credit profiles. Specially if they are wrong, they can not be on your credit reort, but you must take action. |

You sound like many of people (like myself) whose identity has been used, even at a young age. Eventually, you're going to have to file a dispute with the credit bureaus.
For example, which ever credit report these "things" appeared on, go to their site and there will be an option to file a dispute. The credit bureau will investigate (free of charge) the dispute, and the companies will have to prove that it was you who approved and agreed to the charges.
Good luck! |

I would write a letter, make copies & send it Certified Mail - Return Receipt Requested. Send it attention to the department manager. That way you will be sure to get their attention and it should go to the TOP of the pile of mail. If you can't send it certified, send it Registered...one or the other. As long as it goes Special Delivery. I think you should also send a copy to the collection agencies, with a short note of the action you have taken to clear the credit issues with the companies you owe. |

call the collection agencies, my advice, ask for the supervisor, tell them your story, tell them you were not 18 at the time the bills incurred. ask them to send you out the itemized billings/validation of debt!! if you have that information, you can find out who used your SSN when you were still a minor, chances are you wont like the outcome, because it could be your mom/dad or relative stealing your identity !! by law the collection agency has to validate the debts!!
and you've had a SSN since you were born unless your an illegal alien |
