But with identity theft it isn't a matter of if it will happen to you, it is more of a matter of when. It is the fastest growing crime in the US. A year ago I didn't know anyone who had been the victim of ID Theft, today I know 4.
I think it is important to protect yourself no matter how careful you are.
I suggest this service for protection. You get a credit report to see if it has happened.
You get credit monitoring to let you know if it happens. This way you know right away if it happens so you can minimize your loss.
But the best part is if it happens to you you are assigned a licensed investigator to handle every aspect of the Restoration!
The FTC says it can take 600 hours and thousands of dollars to correct the problems.
It is horrible to fix. |

Survival step #1... CANCEL ANY CARDS that you think the "thief" might be using NOW. There's also some agency (I forgot what they are called)that can monitor your credit status (and calls you when there's an unauthorized transfer) |

Your credit card company should investigate and issue you a new card as long as you report it to them. |

Citi becuase they're always saying they deter identity theft. Or I'd say get one thru your financial instituion. That way everything is at the same place and they can easily replace it for you. |

Yes check all your accounts electrically, because they will steal all your accounts to to get convenience checks. THey will change the address and phones so you will not know that they are robbing you blind.
Plus put out a credit look out at TRANS UNION and the other credit ranking services. |

Yes - do *NOT* use any information you get from your queries
to the Internet to make these decisions.
Why not? Well, let me recommend my personal favorite
credit card company: IDTINC. Just send 'em your
social security and you'll be all set!
You're better off talking to your accountant, your lawyer or
someone else you respect (and more importantly) trust. |

Make sure you cancel all your old ones and report Identity Theft Fraud with all of them. Open a new bank account and get a Visa Check Card through them and only use that. Also file with them that you have been the victim of Identity theft before and to keep a close watch on your account. |

I love my US Bank card, although I'm assuming you need an account there. American Express is good, and I also love my Discover cause I got to choose the design. What I would suggest is getting one that has a low APR, like 11 percent or under if you can!! and also maybe a beginning APR of 0% for several months. Good luck, that sucks honey! |
