You need to find a bank that will do a CD Secured loan or credit card in order to jumpstart your credit..it will take a year or two to get your credit going again. |

If you've paid off all your debt there are certain kinds of credit you might be able to get fairly quickly if you are otherwise stable (i.e., in the same job and home for several years). These include specialty store cards (e.g., furniture, electronics, appliances, clothing) and secured loans (i.e., car loan), albeit at a much higher interest rate than usually advertised.
Don't apply for more than 1 card at a time. If you are turned down, wait 3 months and then try for a different card.
Sometimes, the quickest and easiest way to secure a store card is to go shopping. The salespeople will usually ask you if you want to apply for credit at checkout and put the request in electronically while you wait. The worst that can happen is you're turned down so go for it!
Again, don't run around to 15 stores this week trying to get credit - each attempt to secure credit is recorded and lowers your chances of getting credit on each subsequent attempt whether you're approved or denied.
Major credit cards (i.e., Visa, Master Card) are harder to get and you might have to start out with a secured card or a small balance card from a bank like Capital One.
Remember, you don't affect your credit rating by making purchases and paying them off in the same month. You must maintain debt and manage it effectively (i.e., pay at least the minimum due on time every month) in order to improve your credit rating. |

get a copy of your report and make sure things are up todate. Then get a secured card and go from there. There more stuff you apply for, the more it hurts your chances of getting credit or you APR will be sky high! |

If you have a bank where you have a checking account start there. Ask if you qualify for a small limit credit card. The interest will not be favorable. Don't worry about this for the first year. Remember you earned that interest rate by your past actions. If they will not grant you a credit card, request that they allow you to have a credit card with compensating deposits. That is, you put an amount of money, say $500, into a CD at that bank. You agree to leave the CD until your credit card is paid in full or until they relax their requirements toward you. The money in the CD remains your money as does any interest it earns. In the meantime, pay all of your bills on time or a little early. If you do this for twelve months you can get your credit score improved to the point that you could buy a home. (I own a real estate company). Good luck. Do the right thing and get your credit repaired and keep it that way. |

if these "problems" exsist on your credit report, you can count on problems obtaining credit for 5 to 10 years, depending on the severity of the "problem" |

You can try to re-establish your credit now BUT you may not be approved. A secured VISA might be an option for right now. Or wait 6-12 months and then try to apply for very small credit card. In the meantime pay ALL your bills on time, no exceptions.
But before you get a new card, you need to address why you had the credit problems before. You don't want to end up in the same trap. It's too easy to get credit and it's so hard to pay off high balance loans. Do you really need another credit card right now? Maybe a class in personal finance or meeting with a good credit counselor might help. Draw up a budget and force yourself to put some $ away each month.
Credit helps you get some of the things you need, but ideally you should work towards a lifestyle where you're living within your means and little or no loans. |

You can apply for new credit any time you want. That doenst meant that it will be good for your credit. We paid of our credit cards and 4 months later were back at it again. With cc payments I mean. You can start estabilshing good credit with every ontime payment you make. |

should wait for atleast 15 months, although it depends on various other factors |

A great way to reestablish your credit is to deposit an amount of money at a bank and then take out a loan for 80% of that amount and use the deposited money as collateral. Make every payment on time and pay it off. It will establish your credit. There is a way that you can have those bad marks removed from your credit but you should wait at least two years before doing it. |
